  1. 1. Towards Sustainable Shipping: Climate change and other environmental perspectives on carbon-based marine electrofuels and onboard carbon capture

    Author : Elin Malmgren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; liquefied natural gas; power-to-X; methanol; power-to-gas; carbon capture and utilization; thematic analysis; Marine renewable energy; onboard carbon capture; marine fuels; LCA; shipping; electrofuels;

    Abstract : The global, local, and regional environment is under pressure from human activity. Shipping is a human activity causing emissions to air, water, and soil, which has direct and indirect effects on the environment. READ MORE

  2. 2. Biomass and Natural Gas Hybrid Combined Cycles

    Author : Miroslav Petrov; KTH; []
    Keywords : biomass; naturalgas; hybrid; combined cycle; gas turbine; internal combustion engine; simulation; electrical efficiency; total efficiency;

    Abstract : Biomass is one of the main natural resources in Sweden.Increased utilisation of biomass for energy purposes incombined heat and power (CHP) plants can help the country meetits nuclear phase-out commitment. READ MORE

  3. 3. Quantitative laser diagnostics of gas-phase potassium species in biomass combustion and gasification

    Author : Emil Thorin; Florian Schmidt; Markus Broström; Zhongshan Li; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Thermochemical conversion; pyrolysis; phosphorus; single pellet; entrained-flow; in situ; spectroscopy; photofragmentation; imaging; numerical modelling; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Thermochemical energy conversion processes, such as combustion and gasification, are applied worldwide for generation of electricity, heat and synthesis of chemicals. Today, these processes are mostly run on non-renewable, fossil fuels and constitute a major source of carbon dioxide emissions. READ MORE

  4. 4. Advanced In-Core Fuel Cycles for the Gas Turbine-Modular Helium Reactor

    Author : Alberto Talamo; Waclaw Gudowski; Kurt Kugeler; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Atomic physics; Atomfysik;

    Abstract : In 1789 a German chemist, Martin Heinrich Klaproth, announced the discovery of a new element: uranium; few years later, the head of father of the modern chemistry, Antoine Lavoisier, was swept away by guillotine: a new era was destined to be opened, either where energy would have been produced in large scale by nuclear processes delivering hundreds of times the energy of chemical processes or where a mass of people, revolutionary or not, would have been melted down into a couple of seconds. After a quite long time, on the 2nd December 1942, the first nuclear reactor has been put into operation by Enrico Fermi in Chicago; few years later, came also the dark side utilization of fissile materials in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. 5. 5. Sustainable policy for energy, land and natural resources

    Author : James MacGregor; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; environmental economics; natural resources; energy; climate; microcredit; sustainability; cost-benefit analysis; poverty; agriculture;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of four papers which are related to critical natural resource issues from a developing and emerging country perspective. All four papers demonstrate the importance of financial incentives in driving behaviour and investments. READ MORE
