  1. 1. Mechanisms regulating Natural Killer Cell Cytotoxicity

    Author : Hanna van Ooijen; Björn Önfelt; Karl-Johan Malmberg; Karolin Guldevall; Morgan Huse; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Natural Killer cell; Live-cell microscopy; Single cell; 3D; Microwell;

    Abstract : Over the last 50 years, cancer survival rates have steadily improved thanks to earlier detection and novel treatment regimens. For example, drugs that act on the immune system, so-called immunotherapy, have drastically increased the prospect of survival for patients suffering from some of the most aggressive cancer types including advanced malignant melanoma. Abstract : During the last decade, ultrasonic manipulation has matured into an important tool with a wide range of applications, from fundamental cell biological research to clinical and industrial implementations. The contactless nature of ultrasound makes it possible to manipulate living cells in a gentle way, e.g. READ MORE

  4. 4. Matrix metalloproteinases in natural killer cells. Expression of MMPs, IL-2 activation and killer cell interactions with Matrigel® and model tumours

    Author : Per Albertsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Protease; matrix metalloproteinase; killer cell; IL-2; Matrigel; B16 melanoma; tumour infiltration; invasion assay; zymography; Western blot; RT-PCR; light microscopy; fluorescence; electron microscopy;

    Abstract : Introduction: IL-2 activated natural killer (A-NK) cells can recognize malignant cells and exert tumouricidal activities by multiple mechanisms that require close contact with the target cells. Upon adoptive transfer, some A-NK cells accumulate in tumours by migrating from the vascular bed to a position inside the malignant tissue, forming close contacts with target cells. READ MORE

  5. 5. Imaging-based methods for NK cell studies at the single-cell level

    Author : Quentin Verron; Björn Önfelt; Niklas Sandström; Michael Dustin; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; NK cells; microscopy; single-cell; Biological and Biomedical Physics; Biologisk och biomedicinsk fysik;

    Abstract : The immune system provides defense against infectious agents such as viruses, bacteria and parasites. Besides eliminating extracellular agents, the immune system also constantly monitors our own cells for signs of transformation, including tumor development and virus infection. READ MORE
