16. The ontogeny and regulation of human natural killer cells
Abstract : Natural Killer (NK) cells are members of the innate lymphoid cell (ILC) family and take part in the detection and eradication of virus-infected and transformed cells. In this thesis, together with my colleagues I have investigated how NK cells and other ILCs develop and function during human fetal development, how NK cells are functionally regulated (educated) via the activating receptor KIR2DS1, and how NK cells in our body are affected during the early phase of an acute viral infection. 17. Mechanisms influencing natural killer cell recognition of tumour cells
Abstract : Natural killer (NK) cells are part of our innate immune defence against virus-infected and transformed cells. Through a yet undefined mechanism, expression of inhibitory receptors for self-HLA class I molecules endow NK cells with increased functionality. The process leading to gain of function through inhibition is known as NK cell education. READ MORE

18. Ultrasonic Fluid and Cell Manipulation
Abstract : During the last decade, ultrasonic manipulation has matured into an important tool with a wide range of applications, from fundamental cell biological research to clinical and industrial implementations. The contactless nature of ultrasound makes it possible to manipulate living cells in a gentle way, e.g. READ MORE

19. Inhibitory receptors of natural killer cells : specificity and regulation
Abstract : Immunological surveillance of organs and tissues for pathogens and transformed cells by immune cells and their soluble mediators is of outmost importance for the well-being of the host. The natural killer (NK) cell is an example of such an immune cell. READ MORE

20. Functional and molecular aspects of interferon action in human natural killer cells and other leucocytes
Abstract : Interferons comprise a class of structurally related proteins which exert several regulatory effects in responsive cells. These effects include the establishment of an antiviral state, the inhibition of cellular proliferation and the alteration of different immune reactions. READ MORE
