  1. 1. Light Rhythms : Exploring the Perceptual and Behavioural Effects of Daylight and Artificial Light Conditions in a Scandinavian Context

    Author : Federico Favero; Roberto Bresin; Arne Lowden; Ute Besenecker; Sergio Altomonte; KTH; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lighting design; Context; Light; Behaviour; Perception of light; Perception of time; Associative aspects; Architecture; Daylight; Media Technology; Medieteknik;

    Abstract : This compilation thesis collects multidisciplinary work on the study of the impact of light rhythms on perception and behaviour. The thesis was structured to answer and discuss the questions: “How does a person feel and behave inan illuminated space?” and “Do variable light conditions influence perception, appraisal and motion?”. 2. 2. Slow and stopped light by light-matter coherence control

    Author : Jonas Tidström; Lars Thylén; Mauritz Andersson; Jesper Mørk; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; slow light; stored light; stopped light; light-matter coherence; electromagnetically induced transparency; rubidium atoms; Physics; Fysik; Photonics; Fotonik;

    Abstract : In this thesis we study light-matter coherence phenomena related to the interaction of a coherent laser field and the so-called Λ-system, a three-level quantum system (e.g., an atom). We observe electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT), slow and stored light in hot rubidium vapor. READ MORE

  3. 3. Light for a brighter morrow : paving the way for sustainable light-emitting devices

    Author : Petter Lundberg; Ludvig Edman; Thomas Wågberg; Magnus Jonsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Artificial Light; Organic Electronics; Photophysics; Light-emitting Electrochemical Cells; Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence; Host-Guest; Sustainability; Solution Processing; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : We live in an artificially lit world, where light enhances our productivity and improves our quality of life. Today our appetite for light is stronger than ever, and emerging light-emitting technologies do not just replace the classical incandescent light bulb, they also open up for a new world of applications. 4. 4. Investigations into the evolution of biological networks

    Author : Sara Light; Arne Elofsson; David Ussery; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; evolution; scale-free network; metabolism; protein-protein interactions; protein hubs; Theoretical chemistry; Teoretisk kemi;

    Abstract : Individual proteins, and small collections of proteins, have been extensively studied for at least two hundred years. Today, more than 350 genomes have been completely sequenced and the proteomes of these genomes have been at least partially mapped. The inventory of protein coding genes is the first step toward understanding the cellular machinery. READ MORE

  5. 5. In Light of Ionic Materials : A short exploration of ionic materials for light-related applications

    Author : Brando Adranno; Anja-Verena Mudring; Annegret Stark; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ionic materials; ionic liquids; mesophases; light-emission; electrochemical applications; materialkemi; Materials Chemistry;

    Abstract : Ionic liquids (ILs) have been one of the most attractive classes of materials of the last decades. The reason behind this is their peculiar set of properties, which enable their possible application in several research fields. ILs are salts that exhibit a very low melting point, which has been arbitrarily defined to be below 100 °C. READ MORE
