  1. 1. Generation, stability and migration of montmorillonite colloids in aqueous systems

    Author : Sandra García García; Mats Jonsson; Tiziana Missana; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bentonite; montmorillonite; colloid stability; colloid migration; geological disposal; nuclear waste; granitic fractures; ; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Environmental toxicology; Miljötoxikologi; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi; Nuclear chemistry; Kärnkemi;

    Abstract : In Sweden the encapsulated nuclear waste will be surrounded by compacted bentonite in the granitic host rock. In contact with water-bearing fractures the bentonite barrier may release montmorillonite colloids that may be further transported in groundwater. READ MORE

  2. 2. Assessment of human exposure to per- and polyfluorinated compounds (PFCs) : exposure through food, drinking water, house dust and indoor air

    Author : Ingrid Ericson Jogsten; Gunilla Lindström; Bert van Bavel; Stuart Harrad; Örebro universitet; []

    Abstract : Per- and polyfluorinated compounds (PFCs) are detected in humans worldwide but all sources of human exposure have not been fully characterized. The aim of this thesis was to evaluate the contributions from food, water, air and dust as sources for human PFC exposure in the general population. READ MORE

  3. 3. Catalyst Design for the Valorisation of Biomass-derived Furans into Aromatics

    Author : Guido J.L. de Reijer; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aromatics; 2; 5-dimethylfuran; gallium; biomass; furans; production of aromatics; zeolites; biomass conversion; catalysis;

    Abstract : Anno 2023, mankind must strive towards a more sustainable chemical industry; one that does not solely rely on fossil fuels but also utilises renewable feedstocks such as biomass. Biomass can be catalytically converted into commodity chemicals such as aromatics, through intermediates like furans. READ MORE

  4. 4. Unraveling the importance of thiol compounds on mercury speciation, uptake and transformation by the iron-reducer Geobacter sulfurreducens

    Author : Mareike Franziska Gutensohn; Erik Björn; Ulf Skyllberg; Jeffra K. Schaefer; Vera Slaveykova; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mercury; low molecular mass thiols; speciation; uptake; methylation; reduction; Hg 0 ; Hg II ; MeHg; Geobacter sulfurreducens; ICP-MS; LC-MS MS; X-ray absorption spectroscopy; cell physiology;

    Abstract : The biogenic methylation of inorganic, divalent mercury (Hg(II)) by methylating microorganisms leads to formation and bioaccumulation of monomethyl mercury (MeHg) in the environment and can cause severe damage to ecosystems and human health. Diverse microorganisms carry the gene sequence hgcAB and are able to methylate Hg(II) intracellularly. READ MORE

  5. 5. Studies of Volcanic Plumes with Remote Spectroscopic Sensing Techniques -DOAS and FTIR measurements on volcanoes of the Network for Observation of Volcanic and Atmospheric Change-

    Author : Santiago Arellano; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []

    Abstract : Volcanism is a rich geodynamical process, closely linked to the origin and ongoing evolution of the lithosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere and biosphere. Humans have benefited from the resources provided by volcanoes but also been threatened by the dangers of volcanic eruptions, which accurate prediction remains elusive. READ MORE
