  1. 1. Prognostic factors in prostate cancer with special reference to the effect of hormonal therapy

    Author : Göran Ahlgren; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Urology; neuroendocrine differentiation; tumour cell proliferation; DNA-ploidy; prostate cancer; prognostic factors; nephrology; Urologi; nefrologi;

    Abstract : We have used image cell analysis to analyse nuclear DNA content on fine needle aspiration biopsies from 96 patients diagnosed to have prostate cancer 1980-81. By stratifying diploid and tetraploid tumours according to a cytometric proliferation index (PI), we suggest a new DNA-classification that is prognostic of death from prostate cancer in multivariate analysis including conventional prognostic factors. 2. 2. Diagnostic and prognostic value of proteinuria in chronic renal diseases

    Author : Omran Bakoush; Njurmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Urology; Hypertension.; Glomerulonephritis; IgM; Albuminuria; Diabetic Nephropathy; nephrology; Urologi; nefrologi;

    Abstract : To the extent that increased urinary protein excretion is an indicator of alterations of the glomerular capillary wall (GCW) and appearance of tubulointerstitial damage, proteinuria can be a good marker of the overall severity of the glomerular and tubulointerstitial damage, and therefore, the prognosis of glomerular diseases. Studies I, II, and III show that it is the type of proteinuria, rather than the degree of albuminuria, that predicts the progression in renal, proteinuric diseases. READ MORE

  3. 3. Metabolism of free and complexed prostate - specific antigen and their utility for diagnosis and prognosis of prostate cancer

    Author : Thomas Björk; Malmö Urologisk cancerforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; benign prostatic hyperplasia; alpha-1-antichymotrypsin; PSA; prostate cancer; prostate-specific antigen; Urology; nephrology; Urologi; nefrologi;

    Abstract : Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is a glycoprotein produced by the prostate gland. It occurs in several molecular forms in the blood and assays have been developed to measure free PSA and PSA in complex with alpha-1-antichymotrypsin (PSA-ACT). READ MORE

  4. 4. Familial and Hereditary Prostate Cancer

    Author : Ola Bratt; Urologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nephrology; Urology; screening; risk perception; hereditary; androgen receptor; genetics; Prostate cancer; epidemiology; Urologi; nefrologi;

    Abstract : This thesis is based on research concerning epidemiological, clinical, and psychological aspects of familial and hereditary prostate cancer. Epidemiology: Male first-degree relatives of prostate cancer patients had a three-fold increased prostate cancer risk. READ MORE

  5. 5. Impact of renal dysfunction on serum Prostate-Specific Antigen

    Author : Laila Bruun; Internmedicin - epidemiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Urologi; hK2; Urology; intra-individual variation; elimination; peritoneal dialysis; renal dysfunction; kidney transplantation; hemodialysis; nefrologi; nephrology; PSA;

    Abstract : Measurement of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in blood is an important tool in detection for prostate cancer. PSA occurs in several molecular forms in blood: mainly as a free form with a molecular mass of 28 kDa; and as PSA complexed to alpha-1-antichymotrypsin, complexed PSA, with a molecular mass of 90 kDa.
