  1. 1. Peripheral nerve reconstruction. Studies on cellular and acellular iso-, allo- and xenografts

    Author : Martin Kvist; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; acellular nerve graft; costimulation blockade; FK506; immunosuppression; nerve graft; nerve defect; nerve regeneration; nerve injury; nerve extraction; allograft; xenograft;

    Abstract : The best results after a nerve injury with a defect are achieved by a nerve reconstruction procedure using autologous nerve grafts. However, limitations include insufficient amount of suitable donor material and donor site morbidity. The aim of the present thesis was to study alternative nerve grafts, i.e. READ MORE

  2. 2. Sutures bridging nerve defects

    Author : Peter Scherman; Malmö Handkirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; orthopaedics; traumatology; Surgery; continuous longitudinal sutures; nerve repair; nerve regeneration; nerve defect; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Abstract : A new and simple method for the repair of nerve defects, in which sutures alone are used to guide regeneration between the nerve endings, was developed. Bilateral seven to 17 mm rat sciatic nerve defects were bridged by continuous longitudinal sutures with or without different modifications, by conventional autologous nerve grafts or direct repair under tension as controls. 3. 3. Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) and Peripheral Nerve Regeneration

    Author : Mariann Sondell; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Schwann cell; SCG; rat; peripheral nerve regeneration; neuropilin-1; nerve repair; mouse; growth factor; flk-1; axonal outgrowth; DRG; VEGF; Animal physiology; Djurfysiologi;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its possible role as a neurotrophic factor. I have investigated the effect of VEGF on neurons in culture but also in vivo, following a crush lesion of the sciatic nerve, and following nerve repair. READ MORE

  4. 4. Tendon autografts for bridging nerve defects

    Author : Jerker Brandt; Malmö Handkirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; traumatology; Surgery; orthopaedics; cell culture; graft; rat; collagen; tendon; Schwann cells; axons; Peripheral nerve regeneration; axonal outgrowth; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Abstract : A new method, where a tendon segment – a tendon autograft – was used as graft material for peripheral nerve reconstruction, was developed. Defects, 10-15 mm long, in rat sciatic nerves were bridged by various modifications of tendons. READ MORE

  5. 5. Postoperative aspects of inguinal hernia surgery : pain and recurrences

    Author : Niklas Magnusson; Gabriel Sandblom; Ulf Gunnarsson; Mats Hedberg; Marc Miserez; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Inguinal hernia; surgery; pain; reoperation; recurrence; betamethasone; sensory disturbance; nerve; groin; Medicin; Medicine;

    Abstract : Approximately one in four men will have surgery for ingunial hernia in their lifetime. In Sweden, 16 000 procedures are performed each year. To investigate the possible link between handling of nerves and sensory disturbance, 97 groins in 92 patients were examined one year after inguinal hernia surgery. READ MORE
