  1. 16. Studies on nerve terminations in human mucosa and skin

    Author : Marita Hilliges; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Epithelium; herpes simplex; immunohistochemisry; Merkel cell; mucosa; nerves; oral; PGP 9.5; skin; stereology; urinary incontinence; vagina.;

    Abstract : In spite of their accessibility and important sensory function, the nervous tissue components of human oral and vaginal mucosa and skin have been subject to very few, if any, systematic investigations. Studies on the innervation of oral tissues have mainly focused on the dental pulp, the periodontium and the gingiva, probably because of specific clinical interest, thus largely neglecting the mucosa. 2. 17. Sensory neuropeptides and nitric oxide in nasal vascular regulation

    Author : Johan Rinder; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Sensory nerves; neuropeptides; nasal mucosa; nitric oxide; vascular regulation; acoustic rhinometry; NK1-receptors; CGRP-receptors; vanilloid receptors; capsaicin; lactic acid; exercise; a-adrenoceptor agonists; pig; human.;

    Abstract : The role of sensory neuropeptides and nitric oxide in vascular regulation was investigated in the pig nasal mucosa in vivo using arterial blood flow measurements and acoustic rhinometry for analysis of capacitance function. Moreover, the effects of heavy physical exercise, a-adrenoceptor agonists, nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibition, L-arginine, nitric oxide (NO) gas, histamine and capsaicin on nasal cavity NO levels and nasal cavity volume, were investigated in healthy subjects. 3. 18. Nerve diffusion tensor imaging

    Author : Mikael Skorpil; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) is a magnetic resonance imaging technique that in vivo visualises random translational movement of water molecules. DTI has inherent difficulties with low signal-to-noise ratio, sensitivity to patient motion, field inhomogeneities and fast T2 relaxation. READ MORE

  4. 19. Bone Development and the Nervous System

    Author : Gregor Sisask; Olof Nilsson; Anders Bjurholm; Kenneth B Jonsson; André Stark; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; Cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Innervation of bone influence bone modeling, growth and remodeling. Pro-inflammatory cytokines released after tissue trauma are recognized as neurotrophic factors as well as factors influencing bone formation. The Wnt signaling pathway, essential for cell migration during embryogenesis is found to influence bone formation during fracture healing. READ MORE

  5. 20. Hypoglycaemic neuropathy : Experimental studies in diabetic rats treated witn insulin implants

    Author : Simin Mohseni; Anders A. F. Sima; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Insulin dependent diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease that causes secondary complications such as peripheral neuropathy. it is generally believed that diabetic neuropathy is due to chronic hyperglycaemia. In order to understand the pathophysiology of diabetic neuropathy many workers have examined nerves from diabetic rats. READ MORE
