  1. 1. Neuron-glial Interaction in the Developing Peripheral Nervous System

    Author : Mikael Corell; Åsa Fex Svenningsen; Klas Kullander; Helgi Schöith; Heape Anthony; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Schwann cell; nonmyelinating Schwann cell; myelinating Schwann cell; development; proliferation; differentiation; myelin; neural stem cell; central nervous system; peripheral nervous system; enteric nervous system; N-cadherin; GABA; GAD; GABA B receptor; baclofen; CGP55485; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Abstract : The nervous system, including the brain, is the most sophisticated organ in the mammalian body. In such a complex network, neuron-glial interaction is essential and controls most developmental processes, such as stem cell fate determination, migration, differentiation, synapse formation, ensheathment and myelination. 2. 2. Evolution and Development of the Onychophoran Head and Nervous System

    Author : Joakim Eriksson; Graham Budd; John Peel; Gerhard Scholtz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Onychophora; Development; Nervous System; Immunohistochemistry; Gene Expression; Biologi; Biology; Biologi; zoologisk utvecklingsbiologi; Animal Development;

    Abstract : Onychophorans are closely allied to the arthropods and possess a body organisation more similar to Middle Cambrian fossils than to recent arthropods. This means that onychophorans in some respects can be regarded as a model for the last common ancestor to both the Arthropoda and the Onychophora. READ MORE

  3. 3. Aspects of the human enteric nervous system : A study of the normal development and of Hirschsprung's disease

    Author : Tomas Wester; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; enteric nervous system; Hirschsprung s disease; intestinal neuronal dysplasia; neuron density; nitric oxide; bcl-2; interstitial cells of Cajal; c-kit; human; fetal; development; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Surgery; kirurgi;

    Abstract : Thirty patients with Hirschsprung's disease (HD) who underwent Rehbein's anterior resection, using a circular stapler to perform the anastomosis, were evaluated retrospectively. The postoperative complication rate and long-term functional outcome were similar to those reported by other investigators using the same and other techniques. READ MORE

  4. 4. Characterization of the perturbed differentiation in neuroblastoma, aided by the analysis of normal sympathetic nervous system development

    Author : Carolina Gestblom; Lund Wallenberg Neurocentrum; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurology; development; TrkA; apoptosis; proliferation; sympathetic nervous system; neuronal; paraganglia; neuroblastoma; chromaffin; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Abstract : Neuroblastoma is a pediatric tumor derived from cells in the sympathetic nervous system. In an attempt to explain the heterogeneous clinical behavior of neuroblastoma tumors, neuroblastomas have been characterized with regard to their degree of sympathetic differentiation. READ MORE

  5. 5. Bone Development and the Nervous System

    Author : Gregor Sisask; Olof Nilsson; Anders Bjurholm; Kenneth B Jonsson; André Stark; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; Cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Innervation of bone influence bone modeling, growth and remodeling. Pro-inflammatory cytokines released after tissue trauma are recognized as neurotrophic factors as well as factors influencing bone formation. The Wnt signaling pathway, essential for cell migration during embryogenesis is found to influence bone formation during fracture healing. READ MORE
