  1. 1. Habitat selection, nest predation and conservation biology in a Black-tailed Godwit (Limosa limosa) population

    Author : Tomas Johansson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Black-tailed godwit; Limosa limosa; nest site selection; nest predation; philopatry; risk analysis; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; populationsbiologi; Population Biology;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on a black-tailed godwit (Limosa limosa) population, consisting of 35-40 pairs, that breeds on a grazed shore meadow on SE Gotland, Sweden. The small size of the population makes it more prone to extinction due to chance events, than a larger population.The godwits showed microhabitat preferences when choosing nest sites. READ MORE

  2. 2. Sources of variability in heterospecific social information use for breeding habitat selection : Role of genetics and personality in collared flycatchers

    Author : Jennifer Morinay; Blandine Doligez; Lars Gustafsson; Rachel Kendal; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Heterospecific social information; personality; aggressiveness; nest site choice; within- and between-individual variability; quantitative genetics; experimental approaches in the wild; collared flycatchers;

    Abstract : All their life, individuals have to make decisions that may strongly affect their fitness. To optimize their decisions, they can use personally acquired information but also information obtained from observing other individuals (“social information”). READ MORE

  3. 3. Habitat selection and breeding ecology of golden eagles in Sweden

    Author : Edward Moss; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The red-listed Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) population is estimated between 1200-1400 reproductive individuals in Sweden. This population is unusual as eagles predominantly nest in trees unlike most others that prefer cliffs. READ MORE

  4. 4. Getting informed in a risky world : risk assessment, predator information & parental decisions

    Author : Nicole Schneider; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Predation ultimately affects the fitness of individuals. In nest building species like birds, the predation of dependent offspring is the most important source of reproductive failure, favouring the selection of parental adaptations to enhance offspring survival. READ MORE
