  1. 1. The Arctic Atmosphere : Interactions between clouds, boundary-layer turbulence and large-scale circulation

    Author : Georgia Sotiropoulou; Michael Tjernström; Joseph Sedlar; Susanne Crewell; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic; mixed-phase clouds; thermodynamic structure; Arctic inversion; cloud-surface interactions; seasonal transition; IFS model; LES; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Abstract : Arctic climate is changing fast, but weather forecast and climate models have serious deficiencies in representing the Arctic atmosphere, because of the special conditions that occur in this region. The cold ice surface and the advection of warm air aloft from the south result in a semi-continuous presence of a temperature inversion, known as the “Arctic inversion”, which is governed by interacting large-scale and local processes, such as surface fluxes and cloud formation. 2. 2. Forests and Greenhouse gases. Fluxes of CO2, CH4 and N2O from drained forests on organic soils

    Author : Karin von Arnold; Leif Klemedtsson; Mats Nilsson; Björn Hånell; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Greenhouse gases; GHG; fluxes of CO2; CH4; drained forests; organic soils; Skogsbotanik; miljöaspekter; växthusgaser; Water in nature and society; Vatten i natur och samhälle;

    Abstract : One of the largest environmental threats believed to be facing us today is global warming due to the accumulation of green house gases (GHG). The concentrations of GHG in the atmosphere are a result of the net strength of different sinks and sources. READ MORE

  3. 3. Boreal land surface water and heat balance : Modelling soil-snow-vegetation-atmosphere behaviour

    Author : David Gustafsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; soil; snow; land surface heat exchange; forest; arable land; eddy-correlation; Civil engineering and architecture; Samhällsbyggnadsteknik och arkitektur;

    Abstract : The water and heat exchange in thesoil-snow-vegetation-atmosphere system was studied in order toimprove the quantitative knowledge of land surface processes.In this study, numerical simulation models and availabledatasets representing arable land, sub-alpine snowpack, andboreal forest were evaluated at both diurnal and seasonaltimescales. 4. 4. The global marine carbon system through time

    Author : Jenny Hieronymus; Jonas Nycander; Gösta Walin; Michael Follows; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Abstract : Carbon dioxide is an important greenhouse gas and in order to understand its effect on the climate we need to identify its sources and sinks. This thesis focuses on different aspects of the marine carbon system and the exchange of carbon between the ocean and the atmosphere. READ MORE

  5. 5. Water and heat exchange processes over the Baltic sea

    Author : Anna Rutgersson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Meteorology; meteorologi;

    Abstract : Before we can reach understanding of the global climate and predict climate changes accurately we must be able to understand water and energy budgets. The atmosphere-water exchange processes are of great importance. READ MORE
