11. Foliated Transportation Networks - Evaluating feasibility and potential
Abstract : Neither the critical role that transportation plays for economic activities nor its negative external effects can be denied. At the same time, the resources required to sustain and develop the transportation system to an adequate degree and at the required pace are limited. READ MORE

12. Network-based Anomaly Detection for SCADA Systems : Traffic Generation and Modeling
Abstract : Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems control and monitor critical infrastructure in society, such as electricity transmission and distribution systems. Modern SCADA systems are increasingly adopting open standards and being connected to the Internet to enable remote control. READ MORE

13. Developments in Ground Heat Storage Modeling
Abstract : Ground heat storage systems can play an important role for the reduction of green house gases emissions by increasing the exploitation of renewable energy sources and “waste heat” with a consequent diminution of the use of fossil fuels.A ground heat storage consists in an array of vertical boreholes placed in such a way that promotes the mutual thermal interaction between the ground heat exchangers creating the necessary conditions required to effectively store and retrieve heat. 14. Computational modeling of the lamprey CPG : from subcellular to network level
Abstract : Due to the staggering complexity of the nervous system, computer modelling is becoming one of the standard tools in the neuroscientist's toolkit. In this thesis, I use computer models on different levels of abstraction to compare hypotheses and seek un- derstanding about pattern-generating circuits (central pattern generators, or CPGs) in the lamprey spinal cord. 15. On the use of traffic flows for improved transportation systems : Mathematical modeling and applications
Abstract : This thesis concerns the mathematical modeling of transportation systems for improved decision support and analysis of transportation-related problems. The main purpose of this thesis is to develop and evaluate models and methods that exploit link flows. READ MORE
