1. Development of a non-destructive testing method for thermal assessment of a district heating network
Abstract : This thesis presents the development of a non-destructive testing (NDT)method for thermal assessment of pre-insulated district heating (DH) pipes with high accuracy, in which the development process from literature review to its present stage is presented and discussed. Pre-insulated DH pipes have been in use for more than 40 years. READ MORE

2. Reliable and deterministic network services
Abstract : In a post Internet bubble economic environment the obvious lack of any disruptive new technologies that could give new impetus to network growth (as, for example, experienced after the appearance of the Web) lead to a trivialization of network services: Aside grass-roots, semi-subterranean applications like file sharing, entertainment content swapping and on-line gaming, it can be argued that network services are presently used in a manner not very different than a decade ago. In this respect, one of the factors that can be identified as limiting further development is the perceived lack of guarantees with regard to network services. READ MORE

3. Older People Meet Robots : Three Case Studies on the Domestication of Robots in Everyday Life
Abstract : This thesis explores how older people construct meaning, use and make sense of three kinds of robots in their homes. The exploration is undertaken in empirical studies of an assistive robot, an eHealth system, and robotic vacuum cleaners. READ MORE

4. Developments in Ground Heat Storage Modeling
Abstract : Ground heat storage systems can play an important role for the reduction of green house gases emissions by increasing the exploitation of renewable energy sources and “waste heat” with a consequent diminution of the use of fossil fuels.A ground heat storage consists in an array of vertical boreholes placed in such a way that promotes the mutual thermal interaction between the ground heat exchangers creating the necessary conditions required to effectively store and retrieve heat.
