  1. 1. Modeling Neural Stem Cell and Glioma Biology

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Tobias Bergström; Karin Forsberg-Nilsson; Staffan Johansson; Sven Påhlman; [2013]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neural stem cell; integrins; glioma; PDGF; mast cell; Molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Abstract : This thesis is focused on neural stem cell (NSC) and glioma biology. I discuss how NSCs interact with extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins in the stem cell niche, and investigate the consequences of deregulated Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) signaling for embryonic NSCs in transgenic mice. 2. 2. Novel Regulators of Brain Tumor Development – From neural stem cell differentiation to in vivo models

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Anqi Xiong; Karin Forsberg Nilsson; Joanna Phillips; [2015]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; glioma; medulloblastoma; neural stem cell; heparanase; NRBP2; dog models; susceptibility;

    Abstract : Malignant brain tumors are diseases with poor prognosis and/or severe long-term side effects of treatment. This thesis aimed to discover novel regulators in brain tumor development, based on studying neural stem cell and progenitor cell (NSPC) differentiation and using animal models to introduce new insights to mechanisms of human brain tumors. 3. 3. Genetic pathways controlling CNS development The role of Notch signaling in regulating daughter cell proliferation in Drosophila

    University dissertation from Linköping : Linköping University Electronic Press

    Author : Caroline Bivik Stadler; Stefan Thor; Jan-Ingvar Jönsson; Allison Bardin; [2016]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The human central nervous system (CNS) displays the greatest cellular diversity of any organ system, consisting of billions of neurons, of numerous cell sub-types, interconnected in a vast network. Given this enormous complexity, decoding the genetic programs controlling the multistep process of CNS development remains a major challenge. READ MORE

  4. 4. Genetic mechanisms regulating proliferation and cell specification in the Drosophila embryonic CNS

    University dissertation from Linköping : Linköping University Electronic Press

    Author : Shahrzad Bahrampour; Stefan Thor; Jan-Ingvar Jönsson; Simon Sprecher; [2017]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The central nervous system (CNS) consists of an enormous number of cells, and large cellular variance, integrated into an elaborate network. The CNS is the most complex animal organ, and therefore its establishment must be controlled by many different genetic programs. READ MORE

  5. 5. Manipulating neural stem cells

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Department of Cell and Molecular Biology

    Author : Malin Eriksson; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2010]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The stem cell field is a fairly young but fast growing scientific field. Our understanding of stem cells has changed tremendously over the last couple of decades. This in mainly due to the development of new techniques that has enabled us to study stem cells from a completely new perspective. READ MORE
