  1. 11. Cell-based models for studying paediatric high-grade gliomas

    Author : Susanna Larsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; paediatric brain tumour; glioblastoma; glioma stem cell; primary culture; xenograft tumour; zebrafish;

    Abstract : Brain tumours are the largest group of solid tumours in children and accounts for most cancer-related deaths. Astrocytoma is the largest group, representing almost half of the brain tumours, where high-grade glioma is one of the most devastating forms with very poor prognosis due to lack of efficient treatments. 2. 12. Microwell devices for single-cell analyses

    Author : Sara Lindström; Helene Andersson-Svahn; Mehmet Toner; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; microwell; miniaturization; microfluidics; cell culture; single-cell; clone; imaging; stem cell; cancer; low volume; high-throughput; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Powerful tools for detailed cellular studies are emerging, increasing the knowledge ofthe ultimate target of all drugs: the living cell. Today, cells are commonly analyzed inensembles, i.e. thousands of cells per sample, yielding results on the average responseof the cells. READ MORE

  3. 13. Integration of Electrospun Materials in Microelectronic and Biomedical Applications

    Author : Björn Carlberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []

    Abstract : This thesis demonstrates the use of electrospinning and the novel properties of electrospunmaterials in two fields.The microelectronics industry has identified thermal interface materials as one of themajor bottlenecks hindering further integration at packaging level. READ MORE

  4. 14. Downstream effects of master regulators in two brain diseases

    Author : Sebastian Braun; Stamcellscentrum (SCC); []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Rett syndrome; brain tumor development; gene regulation; neural stem cells; cell of origin; BMI1;

    Abstract : In paper one, we investigated how the pharmacological activation and inhibition of the glucocorticoid system affects lifespan and symptoms in a mouse model for RTT. We performed a long-term drug treatment study with the GR activator corticosterone and the GR inhibitor RU486 under which we measured the lifespan and onset of RTT-like symptoms of male Mecp2-null and female Mecp2 heterozygous mice in comparison to untreated mutant and to treated and untreated wild-type animals. 5. 15. Functionalization and characterization of surface supported lipid membranes and their application in cell culture

    Author : Dorota Thid; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cell - surface interaction; supported phospholipid bilayer; IKVAV; DHA; stem progenitor cells; neural cells; surface analytical techniques; QCM-D; surface functionalization; peptide; cell differentiation; cell attachment; membrane; fatty acid;

    Abstract : Phospholipid bilayers supported on a solid surface constitute a versatile, biomimetic platform for a variety of applications, such as biosensing, drug delivery research, cell engineering and as cell membrane mimics in fundamental cell research. Phosphocholine supported lipid bilayers are resistant to cell attachment in a wide range of conditions, and can be functionalized with bioactive signaling molecules to promote specific interactions with cells.
