  1. 1. Experimental Neuroretinal Transplantation

    Author : Fredrik Ghosh; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Transplant; Retinal degeneration; Retina; Rabbit; Neural development; Immunohistochemistry; MHC; Ultrastructure; Vitrectomy; Ophtalmology; Oftalmologi;

    Abstract : Embryonic full-thickness rabbit neuroretinal sheets were transplanted to the subretinal space of adult hosts. This was accomplished by using a new transplantation technique involving vitrectomy and retinotomy. The grafts were followed from 10 to 306 days after surgery, and were then examined by different histological techniques. READ MORE

  2. 2. Inflammation in Parkinson’s Disease and Experimental Neural Transplantation. Role of Cellular Responses, Cytokines and Immunosuppression in Graft Rejection

    Author : Bilal Mirza; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; graft rejection.; pig; human; rat; xenogeneic; allogeneic; syngeneic; transplantation immunology; immunosuppression; cytokines; neural transplantation; Parkinson’s Disease; inflammation; neurodegeneration; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Abstract : Abstract: Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder. There is no proven protection, but many treatments can partially improve symptoms. The disease is caused by monogenetic mechanisms in very few cases, but for the majority of patients the etiology is unknown. READ MORE

  3. 3. Neural Stem Cells - interaction with the brain and prospects for cell replacement therapy for Stroke

    Author : Emanuela Monni; Neural stamcellsbiologi och terapi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neural stem cells; human; fetus; cortex; striatum; stroke; transplantation; inflammation; fusion; reprogramming; chimera; heterokaryon;

    Abstract : Stroke is an acute neurological condition and the leading cause of disability in adult humans. Treatments for efficient recovery are not available. The most common form of stroke results from the occlusion of the middle cerebral artery, which causes loss of brain parenchyma and many types of neurons as well as astrocytes and oligodendrocytes. 4. 4. Neural Stem and Progenitor Cells as a Tool for Tissue Regeneration

    Author : Ulrika Wallenquist; Karin Forsberg Nilsson; Lars Hillered; Karin Holmqvist; Anders Lewén; Johan Bengzon; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; traumatic brain injury; neural stem cells; transplantation; CNS; PNS; progenitor cells; inflammation; CCI; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Neurosurgery; neurokirurgi; Medical Biochemistry; medicinsk biokemi;

    Abstract : Neural stem and progenitor cells (NSPC) can differentiate to neurons and glial cells. NSPC are easily propagated in vitro and are therefore an attractive tool for tissue regeneration. Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a common cause for death and disabilities. A fundamental problem following TBI is tissue loss. READ MORE

  5. 5. Human neural stem cells: region-specific properties and prospects for cell therapy

    Author : Therese Kallur; Lund Neurologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pax6; fetal cortex and striatum; human; neural stem cells; transplantation; neurospheres; stroke; overexpression; region-specific properties;

    Abstract : Cell replacement by neural transplantation can, in animal models of neurodegenerative diseases, reconstruct damaged brain circuitry. In the clinical situation, the graft material used for cell therapy must, most likely, be of human origin. READ MORE
