  1. 1. Restrictive eating disorders: aetiological, epidemiological and neurodevelopmental aspects

    Author : Lisa Dinkler; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Eating Disorders; Anorexia Nervosa; Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder; Neurodevelopmental Disorders; Twin study; Emotion recognition; Eye tracking; Prevalence;

    Abstract : Restrictive Eating Disorders (EDs), including Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) and Anorexia Nervosa (AN), are characterised by severely restricted food intake, commonly leading to substantial weight loss and significantly low weight, and the need for nutritional supplementation. The overarching aim of this thesis was to elucidate specific aetiological, epidemiological, and neurodevelopmental aspects of ARFID and AN, including the genetic aetiology of AN, the link between AN and autism spectrum disorder (ASD), the prevalence of ARFID, and the comorbidity of ARFID with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs). 2. 2. Translational Research of Mendelian Disorders : Applications of Cutting-Edge Sequencing Techniques and Molecular Tools

    Author : Sanna Gudmundsson; Marie-Louise Bondeson; Maria Wilbe; Niklas Dahl; Joris Veltman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; translational research; Mendelian disorders; intellectual disability; sequencing technologies;

    Abstract : Up to 8% of all live-born children are affected with a congenital disorder. Some are Mendelian disorders of known etiology, but many are of undetermined genetic cause and mechanism, limiting diagnosis and treatment. READ MORE

    Abstract : Sex differences in the human body affect many different organs and tissues, some of them have an effect on the human brain and its development. In the developing nervous system, sex differences can bias the number or functionality of neurons, glial cells or synapses. As a result, neural networks might develop with a sex-specific bias. 4. 4. On the influence of dopamine-related genetic variation on dopamine-related disorders

    Author : Olle Bergman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : dopamine; neurodevelopment; amygdala; schizophrenia; Parkinson s disease; social anxiety disorder; ADHD; PITX3; LMX1A; LMX1B; BDNF; DAT; SNP; genes; genetics; BDNF;

    Abstract : Rationale: Dopamine synthesizing neurons are involved in a wide variety of functions. The most prominent dopamine pathways originate in the midbrain. The development, function and survival of these dopaminergic neurons are under the influence of numerous transcription and neurotrophic factors. READ MORE
