  1. 21. Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder : alterations of motor behaviour and dopaminergic transmission

    Author : Aurelija Jucaite; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : AD HD; DCD; neurodevelopmental disorder; PET; dopamine transporter; dopamine D2 receptors; raclopride; striatum; midbrain; anticipatory postural adjustments;

    Abstract : Altered catecholaminergic neurotransmission in the brain has long been thought to be of importance in the regulation of motor behavior and cognitive performance in children who had symptoms of distractability, impulsivity and clumsiness. The dopamine theory of AD/HD has mainly been substantiated by: i) the effects of psychostimulants, which target the dopamine transporter (DAT), and thereby reduce impulsiveness and inattentiveness, increase the striatal cerebral blood flow and functional activity, and ii) the evidence from linkage studies associating the AD/HD syndrome with allelic variations of genes encoding the dopamine transporter and, possibly, the dopamine D4 receptors. Author : Linghua Kong; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Prenatal metabolic disturbances have been reported to increase the risk for offspring adverse outcomes. However, the joint (i.e. READ MORE

  3. 23. Unprovoked seizures in children : incidence, neurodevelopmental comorbidities and treatment

    Author : Eva Åndell Jason; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Epilepsy is considered to be the neurological disease that gives the largest burden of disease in children. It is a heterogeneous disease with very diverse consequences in the lives of the patient. Comorbidities with other neurological, as well as developmental, and psychiatric, diseases are common. 4. 24. The origins and consequences of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder

    Author : Zheng Chang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is characterized by developmentally inappropriate levels of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity, and is the most common neurodevelopmental disorder of childhood. This highly prevalent disorder is estimated to affect about 5% of school-age children worldwide, with a substantial degree of persistence over time. READ MORE

  5. 25. Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Beyond the Young Age : Investigation of the Prevalence of ADHD in Older Adults and the Risk of Age-related Disorders

    Author : Maja Dobrosavljevic; Henrik Larsson; Ebba du Rietz; Henrik Andershed; Alexandra Philipsen; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ADHD; prevalence; comorbidity; functional impairments; older adults; age-related disorders; dementia; mild cognitive impairment; cardiometabolic disorders; prediction model;

    Abstract : Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by impairing levels of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity. Symptoms of ADHD, which typically emerge in childhood, may persist until older age with a substantial adverse impact on health and functionality. READ MORE
