6. Molecular studies of endocrine tumors : Insights from genetics and epigenetics
Abstract : Endocrine tumors may be benign or malignant and may occur in any of the hormone producing tissues. They share several biological characteristics, including a low mutation-burden, and may co-occur in several hereditary tumor syndromes. The aim of this thesis was to identify genetic and epigenetic aberrations in endocrine tumors. READ MORE

7. Profiling of Small Intestine Neuroendocrine Tumors
Abstract : Small intestine neuroendocrine tumors (SI-NETs) are malignant neoplasms usually presenting with disseminated disease and symptoms of hormone overproduction. Radical surgery is curative but can only be performed for localized disease. For most patients the disease follows a progressive and fatal course. READ MORE

8. Vesicle proteins as markers for neuroendocrine tumors
Abstract : The neuroendocrine (NE) tumours comprise a diversity of tumours which share commonproperties, e.g. the capacity to produce, store and release hormones. A prominent feature ofthe NE phenotype is the production of secretory granules with associated vescicle proteins,e. READ MORE

9. Expression of Neuroendocrine Markers in Normal and Neoplastic Tissue with an Emphasis on Ghrelin and Obestatin
Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to characterize the expression of the peptides ghrelin and obestatin, as well as other neuroendocrine markers in human normal tissues, in invasive breast cancer and a wide panel of neuroendocrine tumors (NETs). In normal tissues the expression of ghrelin and obestatin was mainly localized to the gastric mucosa, and in lesser extent in the remaining gastrointestinal tract, endocrine pancreas and mammary glands. 10. Studies of epigenetic deregulation in parathyroid tumors and small intestinal neuroendocrine tumors
Abstract : Deregulation of the epigenome is associated with the initiation and progression of various types of human cancers. Here we investigated the level of 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC), expression and function of TET1 and TET2, and DNA methylation in parathyroid tumors and small intestinal neuroendocrine tumors (SI-NETs).
