  1. 1. Neurofilaments as biomarkers of neuronal damage

    Author : Fani Pujol-Calderón; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neurofilaments; biomarker; neurodegenerative disease; stroke;

    Abstract : Different neurodegenerative diseases have overlapping symptomatology and pathology and have thus become a challenge to modern medicine to achieve a correct diagnosis. The aim of the thesis was to evaluate the use of neurofilaments as biomarkers of neuronal damage by testing their ability to discriminate between different neurodegenerative diseases as well as assessing whether higher neurofilments predict a poorer clinical outcome in ischemic stroke. 2. 2. Biomarkers for diagnosis and prognosis in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis

    Author : Arvin Behzadi; Karin Forsberg; Anton E. Tjust; Anna Wuolikainen; Per Zetterström; Lars-Owe D. Koskinen; Andreas Puschmann; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; amyotrophic lateral sclerosis; biomarkers; neurofilaments; cytokines; troponin; cystatin C; Neurology; neurologi;

    Abstract : Background: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by loss of upper and lower motor neurons, leading to paresis, muscle atrophy, and respiratory failure. ALS can be difficult to diagnose and prognosticate early. READ MORE

  3. 3. Pituitary Tumor Surgery - factors influencing outcome

    Author : Tobias Hallén; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery; biomarkers; glial fibrillary acidic protein; neurofilaments; tau protein; pituitary tumors; sinonasal health; tumor progression; predictive markers; MCM7; methylation patterns; NFPA;

    Abstract : Background: Pituitary tumors represent 15–20% of intracranial tumors. The majority are benign adenomas, of which 30 % are hormonally inactive, the non-functioning pituitary adenomas (NFPAs). READ MORE

  4. 4. Modelling of Diffuse Brain Injury: Combining Methods to Study Possible Links between Transient Intracranial Pressure and Injury

    Author : Ulrika Krave; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; animal model; astrocytosis; diffuse axonal injury; neurofilaments; diffuse brain injury; rotational acceleration; closed head trauma; rabbit; finite element analysis; intracranial pressure; injury mechanisms;

    Abstract : The objectives of this research are the study of sagittal rotational acceleration induced diffuse brain injury mechanisms. Such injuries are common in vehicle accidents in particular; the consequences range from mild to severe symptoms and may lead to persistent neurological dysfunction. READ MORE

  5. 5. Neurofilament light as a marker for neurodegenerative diseases

    Author : Niklas Norgren; Torgny Stigbrand; Roland Carlsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; Neurofilament protein; ELISA; Cerebrospinal fluid; Neurodegenerative diseases; Immunologi; Immunology; Immunologi; immunologi; Immunology;

    Abstract : Neurofilaments are the main cytoskeletal constituents in neuronal cells. They are belived to be important for maintaining the structural integrity and calibre of axons and dendrites thereby influencing the conduction velocity of nerve impulses. READ MORE
