  1. 6. Effects of virus infection and interferon-y on the development of the neuromuscular junction in vitro

    Author : Sofija Kelic; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Normal development of the nervous system depends upon complex interactions between cells and their local environment. These interactions may be disturbed by toxic and infectious agents. It is well known that such agents can cause malformations, due to interference with neural tube formation or neuronal proliferation and migration. READ MORE

  2. 7. The muscle cytoskeleton of mice and men : Structural remodelling in desmin myopathies

    Author : Lena Carlsson; Lars-Eric Thornell; Anders Arnér; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; desmin; nestin; synemin; paranemin; plectin; αB-crystallin; skeletal muscle; heart muscle; myotendinous junction; motor endplate; costamere; anatomi; Human Anatomy;

    Abstract : The muscle fibre cytoskeleton of skeletal and heart muscle cells is composed mainly of intermediate filaments (IFs), that surround the myofibrils and connect the peripheral myofibrils with the sarcolemma and the nuclear membrane. Desmin is the first muscle specific IF protein to be produced in developing muscles and is the main IF protein in mature muscles. READ MORE

  3. 8. Biochemical and immunological characterization of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor from Torpedo marmorata electric organ

    Author : Lena Elfman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Neuronal information transfer in vertebrate skeletal muscle and in the electric organ of e.g. Torpedo is mediated by acetylcholine (ACh). The nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) complex translates the binding of ACh into permeability changes. READ MORE

  4. 9. The role of multifunctional scaffolding proteins in the synaptic vesicle cycle

    Author : Wei Jiao; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Fast synaptic transmission occurs at specialized junctions between neurons referred to as chemical synapses. Action potentials induce an influx of calcium ions into presynaptic terminals, which contain neurotransmitter-filled synaptic vesicles (SVs), triggering fusion of the vesicles with the plasma membrane and resulting in the release of neurotransmitters. 5. 10. Adaptive signal processing of surface electromyogram signals

    Author : Nils Östlund; Stefan Karlsson; Jun Yu; Björn Gerdle; Leif Sörnmo; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : Signalbehandling; electromyography; signal processing; Signalbehandling; biomedicinsk strålningsvetenskap; Biomedical Radiation Science;

    Abstract : Electromyography is the study of muscle function through the electrical signals from the muscles. In surface electromyography the electrical signal is detected on the skin. The signal arises from ion exchanges across the muscle fibres’ membranes. READ MORE
