  1. 1. Neuronal and glial differentiation of expanded neural stem and progenitor cells; in vitro and after transplantation

    University dissertation from Anita Frank, WNC, BMC A11, 221 84 Lund

    Author : Cecilia Eriksson Linsmeier; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2003]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Gtv-a; RCAS A -EGFP; transplantation; cell detection; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; GFP-actin; glial differentiation; neuronal differentiation; neurospheres; glial cultures; bFGF; EGF; cell expansion; cortical primordium; MGE; LGE; CNS; stem- progenitor cells;

    Abstract : In this thesis we have used cells dissected from the lateral ganglionic eminence (LGE), the medial ganglionic eminence (MGE), and the cortical primordium of the embryonic mouse forebrain. The tissue was dissected from either i) wild-type mice, ii) green fluorescent protein (GFP)-, or iii) Gtv-a-expressing transgenic mice, and subsequently grown and expanded in vitro using two different protocols. 2. 2. Cannabinoids as modulators of cancer cell viability, neuronal differentiation, and embryonal development

    University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå universitet

    Author : Sofia Gustafsson; Umeå universitet.; [2012]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cannabinoids; cell viability; neuronal differentiation; colorectal cancer; chick embryo; biokemisk farmakologi; biokemisk farmakologi; Toxicology; toxikologi;

    Abstract : Cannabinoids (CBs) are compounds that activate the CB1 and CB2 receptors. CB receptors mediate many different physiological functions, and cannabinoids have been reported to decrease tumor cell viability, proliferation, migration, as well as to modulate metastasis. READ MORE

  3. 3. Stem Cell Plasticity Controlling Neuronal Differentiation Prior to Cell Transplantation

    University dissertation from Department of Experimental Medical Science, Lund Univeristy

    Author : Laurent Roybon; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2006]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Differentiation; Stem cells; Immunology; serology; Immunologi; serologi; transplantation;

    Abstract : Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease and affects 2% of the population over 65 years of age. The disease is characterized by the progressive loss of dopaminergic neurons. Over time, symptoms increase and, in particular, lead to a dramatic slowness of movements. READ MORE

  4. 4. Proteolytic processing of the Alzheimer APP protein family during neuronal differentiation

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Department of Neurochemistry, Stockholm University

    Author : Sofia Holback; Stockholms universitet.; [2009]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; APP; APLP1; APLP2; differentiation; processing; retinoic acid; secretase; MEDICINE Chemistry Neurochemistry; MEDICIN Kemi Neurokemi; Neurochemistry and Molecular Neurobiology; neurokemi med molekylär neurobiologi;

    Abstract : Increased amyloid-β (Aβ) load in the brain, neurite degeneration, neuronal loss, and decreased levels of several neurotrophins are among the characteristics of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Generation of Aβ occurs when the amyloid precursor protein (APP) is proteolytically processed by β- and γ-secretases in the amyloidogenic pathway. READ MORE

  5. 5. Neural Stem Cell Differentiation and Migration

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Anna Erlandsson; Uppsala universitet.; [2003]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; CNS; stem cells; neuron; PDGF; SCF; differentiation; migration; ERK; Medicin; MEDICINE Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; MEDICIN Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin; Medical Biochemistry; Medicinsk biokemi;

    Abstract : Neural stem cells are the precursors of neurons, astrocytes and oligodendrocytes. During neural development, the division of stem cells takes place close to the lumen of the neural tube, after which they migrate to their final positions within the central nervous system (CNS).
