  1. 16. Signaling mechanisms underlying neural stem cell differentiation. Implications of BMPs, retinoids, and MAP kinases

    Author : Roland Faigle; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : neural stem cells; differentiation; BMP; ASK1; p38 MAP kinase; CNTF; retinoic acid;

    Abstract : Introduction: Neural stem cells are proliferating cells, derived from the nervous system with the ability to give rise to neurons, astrocytes, and oligodendrocytes. The molecular events and signaling pathways regulating neural stem cell differentiation are largely unknown. READ MORE

  2. 17. Characterization of the perturbed differentiation in neuroblastoma, aided by the analysis of normal sympathetic nervous system development

    Author : Carolina Gestblom; Lund Wallenberg Neurocentrum; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurology; development; TrkA; apoptosis; proliferation; sympathetic nervous system; neuronal; paraganglia; neuroblastoma; chromaffin; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Abstract : Neuroblastoma is a pediatric tumor derived from cells in the sympathetic nervous system. In an attempt to explain the heterogeneous clinical behavior of neuroblastoma tumors, neuroblastomas have been characterized with regard to their degree of sympathetic differentiation. READ MORE

  3. 18. Temporal events in neuronal differentiation and cell death : expression and processing of the Alzheimer's amyloid precursor protein family and a protein at the nuclear pore

    Author : Marie Beckman; Kerstin Iverfeldt; David H. Small; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurochemistry; Neurokemi; Neurochemistry and Neurotoxicology; neurokemi och neurotoxikologi;

    Abstract : The present study had two major objectives: 1) to elucidate the involvement of Alzheimer’s amyloid precursor protein (APP) family in neuronal differentiation, and the effect of the Alzheimer’s disease (AD)-linked mutation APPV642I on signal transduction; 2) to investigate the fate of the nuclear pore complex protein POM121 during apoptosis and to examine the possibility of using green fluorescent protein (GFP)-labelled POM121 as a non-invasive sensor of apoptosis in living (non-fixed) cells.APP is the parent protein of the b-amyloid peptide, which is the major peptide constituent in the “senile plaques” of AD. 4. 19. Wnt signaling affects cell adhesion and neuronal differentiation

    Author : Maria Lindqvist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The mammalian central nervous system (CNS) consists of the brain and the spinal cord. The entire CNS is derived from the walls of a fluid-filled neural tube that is formed at an early stage of embryonic development. The tube itself becomes the adult ventricular system. READ MORE

  5. 20. Transcriptional regulation of neuronal differentiation in the developing CNS

    Author : Vilma Rraklli; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The central nervous system (CNS) is responsible for our intellectual and cognitive functions and it comprises the brain and spinal cord. Generation of the CNS occurs during embryonic development from the neural tube that initially consist of a pool of immature progenitors that will give rise to all the neurons in the brain and spinal cord.
