  1. 1. Living with Long-Term Pain after a Stroke

    Author : Marita Widar; Gerd Ahlström; Anna-Christina Ek; Fannie Gaston-Johansson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : stroke; central pain; chronic pain; neuropathic pain; nociceptive pain; shoulder; pain; tension-type headache; pain assessment; disability; activities of daily living; coping; health-related quality of life; mood; caring; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The general aim of this thesis was to classify and describe long-term pain two years after a stroke and to describe the experiences of pain, and the consequences it has on the persons’ lives. The studies were conducted from a multidimensional perspective on pain, combining quantitative and qualitative methods. READ MORE

  2. 2. Development of Substance P 1–7 Related Peptides and Peptidomimetics : Targeting Neuropathic Pain

    Author : Anna Skogh; Anja Sandström; Christian Sköld; Rebecca Fransson; Philip Thompson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Substance P 1–7; Peptidomimetics; Solid-phase Peptide Synthesis SPPS ; Palladium catalysis; Carbonylation; Imidazole; Bioisostere; Neuropathic pain; Allodynia; Structure-activity relationships; Medicinal Chemistry; Läkemedelskemi;

    Abstract : The neuropeptide substance P 1–7 (SP1–7, H-Arg1-Pro2-Lys3-Pro4-Gln5-Gln6-Phe7-OH) and its amidated analogue SP1–7 amide, have displayed intriguing effects in experimental models for neuropathic pain acting on a specific, yet unknown SP1–7 target. The aim of this thesis was to design and synthesise SP1–7 related peptides and peptidomimetics, to be used as research tools to study the SP1–7 system, and to serve as drug leads in the neuropathic pain area. 3. 3. Molecular Signatures of Neuropathic Pain : Revealing Pain-Related Signaling Processes in Spinal Cord Using Mass Spectrometric Methodologies

    Author : Ping Sui; Jonas Bergquist; Konstantin Artemenko; Janne Lehtiö; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mass spectrometry; Spinal cord; Neuropathic pain; Quantitative proteomics; Imaging mass spectrometry; Kemi med inriktning mot analytisk kemi; Chemistry with specialization in Analytical Chemistry;

    Abstract : In this thesis, the detection of global proteomics alteration and changes in neuropeptide distribution caused by neuropathic pain in rat spinal cord tissue was the main focus. Neuropathic pain (NP) is a major clinical syndrome caused by disease or dysfunction of the nervous system and often mediated by neuronal networks in the spinal cord. READ MORE

  4. 4. Chronic intraoral pain - assessment of diagnostic methods and prognosis

    Author : Maria Pigg; Malmö högskola; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neuropathic pain; Orofacial pain; Trigeminal pain; Clinical studies; Prognosis; Diagnostic methods; Quantitative sensory testing; QST; Chronic pain; Endodontics;

    Abstract : The overall goal of this thesis was to broaden our knowledge of chronic intraoral pain. The research questions were:•What methods can be used to differentiate inflammatory, odontogenic tooth pain from pain that presents as toothache but is non-odontogenic in origin?•What is the prognosis of chronic tooth pain of non-odontogenic origin, and which factors affect the prognosis?Atypical odontalgia (AO) is a relatively rare but severe and chronic pain condition affecting the dentoalveolar region. 5. 5. Pain analysis : A study in patients with chronic low back pain or fibromyalgia

    Author : John Sörensen; Alf Udén; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Chronic low back pain (CLBP} and fibromyalgia (FM} are two common chronic pain conditions in which the pain processing mechanisms are not well understood. To identify the types of pain, we used different intravenous {t.v. READ MORE
