  1. 6. Uncoupling Proteins : Regulation by IGF-1 and Neuroprotection during Hyperglycemia in Vitro

    Author : Helena Gustafsson; Anna Forsby; David Tomlinson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; uncoupling protein; oxidative stress; diabetes; neuropathy; SH-SY5Y; Neurobiology; Neurobiologi;

    Abstract : Diabetic neuropathy is believed to arise due to oxidative stress following hyperglycemic situations. Uncoupling proteins (UCPs) constitute a subgroup of mitochondrial transporter proteins with putative antioxidant properties. READ MORE

  2. 7. Cryptogenic Polyneuropathy : Clinical, Environmental, And Genetic Studies

    Author : Jonas Lindh; Magnus Vrethem; Göran Solders; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neuropathy; Neurology; Neurologi;

    Abstract : Objectives: The purpose of this medical thesis was to describe the clinical and neurophysiological features and to evaluate the health related quality of life (HR-QoL) in patients with cryptogenic polyneuropathy. We also wanted to investigate different occupational, and leisure time exposures as determinants for cryptogenic polyneuropathy, and to analyze whether polymorphisms for the null alleles of Glutathione S-Transferase Mu-1 (GSTM1), and Theta-1 (GSTT1), and a low activity genetic variation of epoxide hydrolase (EPHX) affect the risk of developing polyneuropathy. Abstract : Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a prevalent progressive sleep disorder with serious negative health consequences. Although several risk factors such as obesity can make an individual vulnerable to develop OSA, the pathophysiological mechanism for the collapse of the upper airway is unclear. READ MORE

    Abstract : Introduction: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common cancers globally. Chemotherapeutic drugs are frequently used in postoperative treatment. The platinum compound oxaliplatin (OXA) is an option for adjuvant treatment of patients with resected CRC, and has been shown to improve survival. OXA-induced neurotoxic side effects are common (e.
