  1. 16. Long-term outcome after traumatic brain injury : studies of individuals from northern Sweden

    Author : Lars Jacobsson; Jörgen Borg; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Health Science; Hälsovetenskap;

    Abstract : As traumatic brain injury (TBI) is as one of the major causes of long-term disability, there is an increasing interest in the long-term outcome of TBI. The overall aim of this thesis was to increase our knowledge and understanding of the situation for individuals many years post injury, with regard to demographics, injury characteristics and primary outcome, long-term functioning and disability, health-related quality of life, life satisfaction, self-appraisal of the impact of the TBI and sense of coherence. 2. 17. Neurally adjusted ventilatory assist : from animal studies to clinical practice

    Author : Francesca Campoccia Jalde; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Neurally Adjusted Ventilatory Assist;

    Abstract : Patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) undergoing ventilator treatment may experience asynchrony with the ventilator, which has been associated with increased need of sedation, sleep disruption, prolonged mechanical ventilation and unsuccessful weaning from the ventilator. The search for new strategies to improve patient-ventilator interaction is ongoing. READ MORE

  3. 18. Comorbidity and vascular risk factors  associated with idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus : the INPH-CRasH Study

    Abstract : Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (INPH) is a dementia treatable by insertion of a cerebrospinal fluid shunt. It has been suggested that INPH has similar pathophysiological mechanisms as cerebrovascular disease, but the vascular risk factor (VRF) profile of INPH patients has not been assessed using a modern epidemiological approach. Abstract : Our brain, perhaps the most sophisticated and mysterious part of the human body, to some extent, determines who we are. However, it’s a vulnerable organ. When subjected to an impact, such as a traffic accident or sport, it may lead to traumatic brain injury (TBI) which can have devastating effects for those who suffer the injury. READ MORE
