  4. 4. Novel mechanism of action of antipsychotic drugs : effects on neuropeptides in rat brain

    Author : Susanne H M Gruber; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Schizophrenia; D-amphetamine; Antipsychotic drugs; Neurotensin; Neuropeptide Y; Rat brain; Microdialysis;

    Abstract : Schizophrenic patients have been reported to have lower concentrations of neurotensin (NT)-like immunoreactivity (-LI) in their cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) that normalize after treatment with antipsychotic drugs. Schizophrenic patients also had higher CSF concentrations of neuropeptide Y (NPY)-LI compared to controls, thus involvement of NPY in the disease has also been suggested. READ MORE

  5. 5. Prostaglandin E2 influences the gastrointestinal endocrine cell system in the rat

    Keywords : CCK; EC cells; ECL cells; endocrine cell system; glucagon; indomethacin; neurokinin A; neurotensin; prostaglandin E2; somatostatin;

    Abstract : Previous studies suggest that prostaglandin E2 may interact with gastrointestinal endocrine cells. Our aim was to examine whether erogenous and endogenous prostaglandins - particularly prostaglandin E2 - influence the endocrine cell system in the rat gastrointestinal tract. READ MORE
