  1. 16. Evaluation of neurotoxic properties of gliotoxin

    Author : Viktoria Axelsson; Anna Forsby; Marion Ehrich; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mycotoxin; gliotoxin; A. fumigatus; cytotoxicity; neurotoxicity; Neurochemistry; Neurokemi;

    Abstract : The occurrence of mould in food and animal feed is a severe problem due to the secondary metabolites, called mycotoxins, which can possess toxic activity. Aspergillus fumigatus is a common fungus found in improperly stored animal feed and the abundance of spores of the fungus is frequently spread into the air. READ MORE

  2. 17. How can an organism´s life experience affect their descendants? Insights from epigenetic and transgenerational effects of chemical exposure in zebrafish

    Author : Mélanie Blanc; Steffen Keiter; Joëlle Rüegg; Xavier Cousin; Nikolai Scherbak; Michael K. Skinner; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Neurotoxicity; behavior; RNA-Seq; RRBS; TEI; permethrin; PCBs; PBDEs; coumarin 47;

    Abstract : Environmental pollution causes approx. 10% of human diseases, and some develop in the progeny because of parental exposure. Effects passed on to subsequent generations may be a consequence of genetic mutations, or of inherited changes in epigenetic patterns. READ MORE

  3. 18. Neurotoxic Effects of Dichlorophenyl Methylsulphones Related to Olfactory Mucosal Lesions

    Author : Carina Carlsson; Ingvar Brandt; Hans Tjälve; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; olfcatory toxicity; olfactory bulb; aryl methylsulphone; neurotoxicity; QSAR; Biologi; Biology; Biologi; Ecotoxicology; Ekotoxikologi;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the highly potent olfactory mucosa toxicant 2,6-dichlorophenyl methylsulphone (2,6-diClPh-MeSO2) and its non-toxic 2,5-chlorinated isomer (2,5-diClPh-MeSO2). In mice, both substances bind firmly in the olfactory mucosa and the olfactory bulb, which are important components of the sensory system. READ MORE

  4. 19. Exposure and effects of naturally produced hydroxylated polybrominated diphenyl ethers in fish : Implications for Baltic Sea wildlife

    Author : Johan Gustafsson; Lillemor Asplund; Pim E.G. Leonards; Marja H. Lamoree; Robert Letcher; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecotoxicology; Metabolomics; OH-PBDE; Algae; Cyanobacteria; Natural products; Thiamine; Health; Biomarker; Seasonal variation; Perch; Zebrafish; Flame retardant; Mixture; 6-OH-BDE47; Energy metabolism; Endocrine disruption; Neurotoxicity; OXPHOS; Environmental Chemistry; miljökemi;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to investigate if naturally produced hydroxylated polybrominated diphenyl ethers (OH-PBDEs) are causing negative health effects for Baltic Sea wildlife. In the laboratory, OH-PBDEs have shown to be potent disrupters of energy metabolism as well as endocrine disruptors and neurotoxins. READ MORE

  5. 20. In vitro developmental neurotoxicity of acrylamide

    Author : Kristina Attoff; Anna Forsby; Ann-Kristin Östlund Farrants; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neurokemi med molekylär neurobiologi; Neurochemistry with Molecular Neurobiology;

    Abstract : The number of children with neurodevelopmental disorders is increasing worldwide which makes it a public concern. Exposure to environmental chemicals has been reported as a source of developmental neurotoxicity. READ MORE
