  1. 1. Neurodevelopmental Consequences of Exposure to Paracetamol (Acetaminophen) and Related Drugs : Experimental studies in mice

    Author : Gaëtan Philippot; Robert Fredriksson; Vesna Jevtovic-Todorovic; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; paracetamol acetaminophen ; developmental neurotoxicology; delta9-tetrahydrocannabinol THC ; ibuprofen; endocannabinoid system; neonatal mice; brain growth spurt; behavior; Biology with specialization in Environmental Toxicology; Biologi med inriktning mot miljötoxikologi;

    Abstract : Paracetamol (acetaminophen) is the analgesic pharmaceutical most commonly used during pregnancy and early life. While therapeutic doses of paracetamol are considered harmless during these periods, recent findings in both humans and rodents suggest a link between developmental exposure to paracetamol and behavioral consequences later in life. 2. 2. Temporal events in neuronal differentiation and cell death : expression and processing of the Alzheimer's amyloid precursor protein family and a protein at the nuclear pore

    Author : Marie Beckman; Kerstin Iverfeldt; David H. Small; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurochemistry; Neurokemi; Neurochemistry and Neurotoxicology; neurokemi och neurotoxikologi;

    Abstract : The present study had two major objectives: 1) to elucidate the involvement of Alzheimer’s amyloid precursor protein (APP) family in neuronal differentiation, and the effect of the Alzheimer’s disease (AD)-linked mutation APPV642I on signal transduction; 2) to investigate the fate of the nuclear pore complex protein POM121 during apoptosis and to examine the possibility of using green fluorescent protein (GFP)-labelled POM121 as a non-invasive sensor of apoptosis in living (non-fixed) cells.APP is the parent protein of the b-amyloid peptide, which is the major peptide constituent in the “senile plaques” of AD. 3. 3. Astroglial Cells : Role in Neurodegenerative-Inflammatory Processes in the Central Nervous System

    Author : Gun Eriksson; Karl Åkerman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; Kemi; neurokemi och neurotoxikologi; Neurochemistry and Neurotoxicology;

    Abstract : Inflammatory processes, mediated by the pro-inflammatory cytokines interleukin (IL) -1a/b, tumor necrosis factora(TNFa), IL-6 and excitotoxic actions of glutamate, are proposed to be implicated in neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease.A neurotoxic fragment ofb-amyloid,bA25-35, was shown to induce a reactive phenotype of primary astrocytes and microglial cells in a time-dependent manner. 4. 4. Characterization of galanin receptors using chimeric peptides and site-directed mutagenesis

    Author : Ulla Eriksson Sollenberg; Ülo Langel; Anna-Lena Hulting; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; galanin; GPCR; mutagenesis; neuropeptide; Neurochemistry; Neurokemi; Neurochemistry and Neurotoxicology; neurokemi och neurotoxikologi;

    Abstract : Galanin, a 29 (30) amino acid neuropeptide, is found throughout both the central and peripheral nervous systems. It signals via three receptors, GalR1-3, all belonging to the rhodopsin-like G-protein coupled receptors. Galanin and its receptors have been implicated in a vast variety of biological processes. 5. 5. Cell-penetrating peptides : Uptake, stability and biological activity

    Author : Tina Holm; Ülo Langel; Roland Brock; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Neurochemistry and Neurotoxicology; neurokemi och neurotoxikologi;

    Abstract : Cell-penetrating peptides (CPPs) have emerged as a group of remarkable delivery vectors for various hydrophilic macromolecules, otherwise excluded from cells due to the protective plasma membrane. Unbiased conclusions regarding e.g. READ MORE
