  1. 1. Multiple neurotransmitter inputs modulate circadian clock neurons in Drosophila

    Author : Yasutaka Hamasaka; Dick Nässel; François Rouyer; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; circadian; Drosophila; neurotransmitter; G-protein coupled receptor; Neurobiology; Neurobiologi;

    Abstract : Most animals have endogenous circadian clocks, which drive daily rhythms in behavior and physiology to adapt to daily cycles of the environment. Several sets of neurons have been identified as circadian pacemakers (clocks) in the brain of Drosophila melanogaster, but the neuronal circuits and neurotransmitters signalling circadian information are poorly known. 2. 2. Neuropeptide and catecholamine effects on tenocytes in tendinosis development : studies on two model systems with focus on proliferation and apoptosis

    Author : Ludvig Backman; Patrik Danielson; Malcolm Collins; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; substance P; neurotransmitter; tendinopathy; overuse injury; rabbit; tendon cell; Achilles tendon;

    Abstract : Background: Achilles tendinopathy is a common clinical syndrome of chronic Achilles tendon pain combined with thickening of the tendon and impaired tendon function. Tendinopathy is often, but not always, induced by mechanical overload, and is frequently accompanied by abnormalities at the tissue level, such as hypercellularity and angiogenesis, in which case the condition is called tendinosis. 3. 3. Imaging and Quantification of Brain Serotonergic Activity using PET

    Author : Pinelopi Lundquist; Margareta Hammarlund-Udenaes; Per Hartvig; Gunnar Blomquist; Paul Cumming; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Pharmacokinetics Pharmacotherapy; Brain serotonin; Neurotransmitter release; Neurotransmitter synthesis; Positron emission tomography; Tracer validation; Tracer modelling; Farmakokinetik Farmakoterapi;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates the potential of using positron emission tomography (PET) to study the biosynthesis and release of serotonin (5HT) at the brain serotonergic neuron. As PET requires probe compounds with specific attributes to enable imaging and quantification of biological processes, emphasis was placed on the evaluation of these attributes. READ MORE

  4. 4. Neurotransmitter Imaging of the Human Brain : Detecting γ-Aminobutyric Acid (GABA) Using Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy

    Author : Sofie Tapper; Peter Lundberg; Anders Tisell; Peter Zsigmond; Richard Edden; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Introduction: In this thesis, MEGA-edited Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (MRS) has been used for the purpose of non-invasive detection of !- aminobutyric acid (GABA) within the brain. GABA is the main inhibitory neurotransmitter in the human central nervous system, and glutamate is the corresponding main excitatory neurotransmitter. READ MORE

  5. 5. Physiological aspects of cochlear excitation and neurotransmitter release

    Author : Wanje Jäger; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Cochlea; cochlear microphonics; summating potential; vibratory response; tetracaine; aspartate; glutarnate; neurotransmitter; noise; hearing loss;

    Abstract : Using an in vitro model of the guinea pig, the temporal bone preparation, cochlear physiology was studied. By perfusion of the scala tympani with oxygenated culture medium, the responses of the hearing organ to sound stimuli were maintained over several hours and the functional state was followed by monitoring the electrophysiological parameters cochlear microphonics (CM) and summating potential (SP).
