  1. 1. Antibody Evolution and Repertoire Development

    Author : Johan Lantto; Institutionen för immunteknologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi; virus neutralization; trinucleotide repeat; insertion; immunoglobulin variable genes; human cytomegalovirus; glycoprotein B; deletion; antibody; antibody repertoire;

    Abstract : Antibodies are key players of the immune system in higher vertebrates, which provide a defense against potentially lethal threats from the environment. Besides their importance in the immune defense, antibodies have a great potential as reagents in biological chemistry and diagnostics, and as therapeutic agents against both infectious diseases and cancer. 2. 2. Studies on Potency and breadth of HIV-1, HIV-2 and SIV neutralizing antibody responses

    Author : Gülsen Özkaya Sahin; Avdelningen för medicinsk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; HIV-1; HIV-2; SIV; envelope; neutralizing antibody; breadth; potency; IgG; IgA; complement; antibody-dependent complement-mediated inactivation; virus evolution; diversity; divergence;

    Abstract : Even though the relative contribution of neutralizing antibodies (Nab) to prevent progression to AIDS during HIV-1 infection is still unclear, the induction of broadly NAb directed against HIV-1 through vaccination is considered to represent an important goal for the development of HIV-1 vaccines. Factors contributing to the induction of NAb may include the strength and duration of antigenic stimulation, the preservation of CD4+ T and B cells, the conformation of the HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein complex (Env), and the evolution of Env during infection. 3. 3. Selection and design in antibody phage display

    Author : Jonas Persson; Institutionen för immunteknologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; specificity fine-tuning.; phage display; MUC1; automated selection; antigenicity; antibody; affinity maturation;

    Abstract : The immune system is an important part of the physiology of higher organisms. In the immune system antibodies play a key role in neutralizing and clearing potentially lethal threats from the environment. The importance of antibodies in the immune system has made them come to the attention as a tool in chemistry and medicine. READ MORE

  4. 4. Human monoclonal antibody technology. A tool to investigate human antibody repertoires

    Author : Mats Ohlin; Institutionen för immunteknologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The development of technologies to generate cell lines producing monoclonal antibodies of human origin has a great impact on the ability to study repertoires of specificities in the humoral immune response. Furthermore, it permits the generation of reagents which may be valuable for diagnostic and therapeutic applications and which lack some of the disadvantages of similar murine antibodies. READ MORE

  5. 5. Approaches to modulate vaccine-induced antibody responses

    Author : Martina Soldemo; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Most successful licensed vaccines mediate protection by inducing antibody responses capable of protecting the individual from infection or disease. Despite the availability of many effective vaccines, we lack knowledge about fundamental aspects of B cell immunity and how we respond to complex real-world protein antigens. READ MORE
