  1. 1. On the Search for High-Energy Neutrinos : Analysis of data from AMANDA-II

    Author : Johan Lundberg; Allan Hallgren; Olga Botner; Els de Wolf; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; neutrinos; neutrino detection; cosmic rays; ultra-high energy; numerical simulation; optical properties; monte carlo method; ray tracing; neutrino detection; AMANDA; IceCube; WIMP; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : A search for a diffuse flux of cosmic neutrinos with energies in excess of 1014 eV was performed using two years of AMANDA-II data, collected in 2003 and 2004. A 20% evenly distributed sub-sample of experimental data was used to verify the detector description and the analysis cuts. READ MORE

  2. 2. Neutrino emission from high-energy component gamma-ray bursts

    Author : Martino Olivo; Allan Hallgren; Olga Botner; Nils Bergvall; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; neutrino; GRB; IceCube; Astroparticle physics; Astropartikelfysik;

    Abstract : Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are brief and sudden explosions radiating most of their energy in the soft γ-ray band ( 100 keV). In the context of multimessenger astroparticle physics recent observations of GRBs provide an excellent benchmark for testing theoretical models of high energy emission mechanisms. READ MORE

  3. 3. The Extremes of Neutrino Astronomy : From Fermi Bubbles with IceCube to Ice Studies with ARIANNA

    Author : Elisabeth Unger; Allan Hallgren; Olga Botner; Antonio Capone; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; astroparticle physics; neutrino telescopes; IceCube; Fermi bubbles; ARIANNA; horizontal propagation; surface wave propagation; Fysik med inriktning mot elementarpartikelfysik; Physics with specialization in Elementary Particle Physics; High Energy Physics; Högenergifysik;

    Abstract : The Fermi bubbles are extended regions of hard gamma-ray emission which were discovered with Fermi-LAT data to exist above and below the Galactic Center. In order to explain the origin of the gamma-rays, different theories are proposed. READ MORE

  4. 4. Search for low mass WIMPs with the AMANDA neutrino telescope

    Author : Anna Davour; Olga Botner; Carlos de los Heros; Mark Pearce; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; dark matter; WIMP; neutrino detection; AMANDA; supersymmetry; Fysik; Physics; Fysik; High Energy Physics; Högenergifysik;

    Abstract : Recent measurements show that dark matter makes up at least one fifth of the total energy density of the Universe. The nature of the dark matter is one of the biggest mysteries in current particle physics and cosmology. READ MORE

  5. 5. Physics at the High-Energy Frontier : Phenomenological Studies of Charged Higgs Bosons and Cosmic Neutrino Detection

    Author : Oscar Stål; Gunnar Ingelman; Johan Rathsman; Jonathan Ellis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; particle physics; Standard Model; beyond the Standard Model; supersymmetry; Higgs physics; charged Higgs boson; LHC; flavour physics; ultra-high-energy neutrinos; Askaryan effect; radio detection; lunar satellites; Elementary particle physics; Elementarpartikelfysik; högenergifysik; High Energy Physics;

    Abstract : The Standard Model of particle physics successfully describes present collider data. Nevertheless, theoretical and cosmological results call for its extension. A softly broken supersymmetric completion around the TeV scale solves several of the outstanding issues. Supersymmetry requires two Higgs doublets, leading to five physical Higgs states. READ MORE
