  1. 1. Theoretical and Phenomenological Studies of Neutrino Physics

    Author : Mattias Blennow; Tommy Ohlsson; Eligio Lisi; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; neutrino mass; neutrino mixing; neutrino oscillations; matter effects; non-standard effects; the day-night effect; solar neutrinos; accelerator neutrinos; exact solutions; three-flavor effects; large density; neutrino decay; neutrino decoherence; neutrino absorption; non-standard neutrino interactions; seesaw mechanism; stability criteria; leptogenesis; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis is devoted to the theory and phenomenology of neutrino physics. While the standard model of particle physics has been extremely successful, it fails to account for massive neutrinos, which are necessary to describe the observations of neutrino oscillations made by several different experiments. 2. 2. Neutrino interactions and axion emission impact on core-collapse supernova simulations

    Author : Aurore Betranhandy; Evan O'Connor; Jeremiah Murphy; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Core-Collapse Supernovae; simulations; CCSN; PNS; neutrino; axion; Astronomy; astronomi;

    Abstract : Core-Collapse Supernovae (CCSNe) are important phenomena in the scope of nucleosynthesis and, as the final stage of massive stars' life, they are key processes in the understanding of stellar evolution. They also are the birthplace of neutron stars and black holes, therefore they play a major role in the modelling and understanding of compact object mergers. READ MORE

  3. 3. Bright Needles in a Haystack : A Search for Magnetic Monopoles Using the IceCube Neutrino Observatory

    Author : Alexander Burgman; Carlos Pérez de los Heros; Olga Botner; Allan Hallgren; David Milstead; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; magnetic monopole; IceCube; astroparticle physics; neutrino telescope; Fysik med inriktning mot elementarpartikelfysik; Physics with specialization in Elementary Particle Physics;

    Abstract : The IceCube Neutrino Observatory at the geographic South Pole is designed to detect the light produced by the daughter-particles of in-ice neutrino-nucleon interactions, using one cubic kilometer of ice instrumented with more than 5000 optical sensors.Magnetic monopoles are hypothetical particles with non-zero magnetic charge, predicted to exist in many extensions of the Standard Model of particle physics. 4. 4. A Search for Solar Neutralino Dark Matter with the AMANDA-II Neutrino Telescope

    Author : Thomas Burgess; Christian Walck; Alessandro de Angelis; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dark matter; AMANDA; Supersymmetry; WIMP; Neutralino; Neutrino; IceCube; Astroparticle physics; Astroparticle physics; Astropartikelfysik; Physics; fysik;

    Abstract : A relic density of Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) remaining from the Big Bang constitutes a promising solution to the Dark Matter problem. It is possible for such WIMPs to be trapped by and accumulate in gravitational potentials of massive dense objects such as the Sun. READ MORE

  5. 5. Dynamics of quarks and leptons : theoretical Studies of Baryons and Neutrinos

    Author : Tommy Ohlsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chiral quark model; baryons; conguration mixing; magnetic moments; Coleman{Glashow sum-rule; spin structure; spin polarizations; weak form factors; semileptonic decays; nucleon quark sea isospin asymmetry; neutrinos; neutrino oscillations; neutrino avors; mixing angles; mass squared dierences; MSW eect; numerical calculations; interpretation of experiments; Mathematical physics; Matematisk fysik;

    Abstract : The Standard Model of Elementary Particle Physics (SM) is the present theoryfor the elementary particles and their interactions and is a well-established theorywithin the physics community. The SM is a combination of Quantum Chromodynamics(QCD) and the Glashow{Weinberg{Salam (GWS) electroweak model. READ MORE
