  1. 11. Intracellular radicals in neutrophils - processing and functional implications

    Author : Halla Björnsdottir; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2015]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neutrophil; reactive oxygen species; neutrophil extracellular traps;

    Abstract : Neutrophils are the most abundant leukocyte in human blood and essential components of our defense against microbial pathogens. These cells can neutralize microbial pathogens by phagocytosis, which involves engulfment and degradation of microbes intracellularly, as well as by the formation of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs), which are structures released from neutrophils made up of DNA and proteins that capture microbes extracellularly. 2. 12. Regulation of neutrophil apoptosis

    University dissertation from Maria Alvarado-Kristensson, experimentall pathology, Lund University, U-MAS, entrance 78, 205 02 Malmö

    Author : Maria Alvarado-Kristensson; [2004]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; General pathology; pathological anatomy; Patologi allmän ; patologisk anatomi; PP2A; p38 MAPK; caspases; signal transduction; inflammation; Apoptosis; human neutrophils;

    Abstract : The human neutrophil is the most abundant granulocyte and the major type of cell involved in an acute inflammatory response. Neutrophils are armed with various systems of enzymes, that can find and kill pathogens, but unfortunately, these "weapons" cannot distinguish between the host tissues and the "invaders. READ MORE

  3. 13. Neutrophil phagocytosis and secretion : The role of calcium and the cytoskeleton

    University dissertation from Linköping : Linköping University Electronic Press

    Author : Lena Serrander; Linköpings universitet.; Linköpings universitet.; [1999]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Neutrophils assure rapid removal of bacteria by a variety of processes. They crawl out of the vessels, phagocytose the bacteria and kill them by secretion of bactericidal substances and production of oxidative metabolites. READ MORE

  4. 14. Towards a Refined Model of Neutrophil Motility

    University dissertation from Linköping : Linköping University Electronic Press

    Author : Vesa-Matti Loitto; Karl-Eric Magnusson; Tommy Andersson; [2001]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; human polymorphonuclear leukocytes. PMNL; neutrophils; neutrophil motility; N-formyl-Met-Leu-Phe; MEDICINE Microbiology; immunology; infectious diseases Microbiology Medical microbiology; MEDICIN Mikrobiologi; immunologi; infektionssjukdomar Mikrobiologi Medicinsk mikrobiologi;

    Abstract : The ability of human polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNL; neutrophils), to sense and move to sites of infection is essential for our defense against pathogens. Cell motility is critically dependent on a dynamic remodeling of morphology. READ MORE

  5. 15. Inflammation and neutrophil recruitment in healing of colonic anastomosis

    University dissertation from Department of Surgery, Malmö University Hospital, Lund University

    Author : Peter Månsson; [2001]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; experimetnal; anastomotic healing; Inflammation; neutrophil redruitment; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Abstract : Wound healing is a multistep process with an initial inflammatory response, followed by synthesis of extracellular matrix components and finalized by a repair phase. One main goal was to determine the impact and adhesive mechanisms of neutrophil recruitment in anastomotic healing in the colon. READ MORE
