1. Determination of the thermal conductivity of the insulation in district heating mains : Field measurements
Abstract : This thesis concerns the development of a measurement method for determination in the field of the thermal conductivity of the insulation in buried district heating mains. The thermal conductivity of the insulation is calculated from the measured value of the radial heat flow through the heating main, the measured temperature difference across the insulation, and the dimensions of the heating main. 2. Gnutella Network Traffic : Measurements and Characteristics
Abstract : Wide availability of computing resources at the edge of the network has lead to the appearance of new services based on peer-to-peer architectures. In a peer-to-peer network nodes have the capability to act both as client and server. READ MORE

3. New Instrumentation for Forensic Applications : Automatic Fiber Detection and Breath Alcohol Measurements
Abstract : Two forensic instruments have been developed and evaluated with respect to basic characteristics. One instrument is used for automatic fiber detection and the other for breath alcohol measurement. READ MORE

4. Improving the Neutron Cross-section Standards 238U(n,f) and 6Li(n,a) : Measurements and Simulations
Abstract : Improving or extending the range of cross-section standards, which in general are believed to be well known, require good control of the experimental conditions and the uncertainties involved. Two experiments that aspire to improve two different neutron cross-section standards, 238U(n,f) and 6Li(n,a, are presented in this thesis. READ MORE

5. Non-contact surface wave measurements on pavements
Abstract : In this thesis, nondestructive surface wave measurements are presented for characterization of dynamic modulus and layer thickness on different pavements and cement concrete slabs. Air-coupled microphones enable rapid data acquisition without physical contact with the pavement surface. READ MORE
