Abstract : The aims of this thesis were to assess the status of childhood hearing screening programmes, primarily in Europe, and to evaluate their performance against the parameters that make up a childhood hearing screening programme, such as test method, protocol, location, screening professional, and age of the infant at screening. Abstract : Congenital unilateral sensorineural hearing loss (uSNHL) comprises about 25% of the sensorineural hearing losses (SNHLs) found through newborn hearing screening (NHS) programs. Even if children with congenital uSNHL struggle in school and everyday listening situations, studies on etiology, hearing aid (HA) outcomes and intervention are few, so it is still unknown when and how intervention is optimally provided. Abstract : The congenital cytomegalovirus infection (CMV) is the most common congenital infection causing childhood morbidity. The majority (85%) of infected infants have no signs of infection in the newborn period, and when sequelae such as a hearing deficit or neurological impairment manifest themselves, the possibility of a CMV infection is easily overlooked. 14. Autoimmune markers in autoimmune diabetes
Abstract : Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is an autoimmune disease, characterized by autoimmune mediated loss of insulin secreting Beta-cells. The disease is associated with certain HLA class 11 haplotypes. HLA DR3-DQ2 and DR4-DQ8 are positively while DQ6 (DQA1*0102-DQB1*0602) is negatively associated with the disease in Caucasians.
