  1. 11. Nitritation and denitritation in sludge liquor treatment

    Author : David Gustavsson; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; nitritation; denitritation; nitrous oxide; nitric oxide; nitrogen dioxide; wastewater; sludge liquor;

    Abstract : Enhanced biological nitrogen removal at municipal wastewater treatment plants is a common procedure to prevent eutrophication in water bodies. Increased load, stricter effluent regulations, and demands for reduced resource and energy consumption present new challenges for the wastewater treatment plants. READ MORE

  2. 12. Effects of nitrogen deposition on the growth, metabolism and activity of ectomycorrhizal fungi

    Author : Magnus Ellström; MEMEG; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nitrogen deposition; Ectomycorrhizal fungi; Symbiosis; SOM modification; Carbon starvation; Metabolism; Nitrogen leakage; IR-spectroscopy; Mesh bags; Microarray; Axenic growth; Transcriptomics.;

    Abstract : Elevated nitrogen (N) deposition is an environmental problem that can affect plants and microorganisms, which are vital for the terrestrial N and carbon (C) cycles. This thesis has investigated the response of ectomycorrhizal fungi (EMF) to increased N deposition. READ MORE

  3. 13. Nitric Oxide Synthase in Pancreatic Islets During Trauma and Parenteral Feeding

    Author : Saleem Qader; Islet cell physiology; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; Gastroenterologi; Gastro-enterology; Pancreatitis; Ghrelin; TPN; cNOS; iNOS; PACAP; VIP; cAMP; Pancreatic islets; Insulin secretion;

    Abstract : The influence of trauma (acute pancreatitis) or total parenteral nutrition (TPN) on pancreatic islet hormone secretion in relation to islet expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) was investigated. Acute pancreatitis resulted in an impaired glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS) which was found to be parallelled by a marked expression of iNOS and an exaggerated NO production in the pancreatic islets. 4. 14. Modelling of molybdopterin-dependent enzymes

    Author : Anders Thapper; Kemiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Inorganic chemistry; enzymes; transition state; intermediate; mechanism; molybdopterin; density functional theory; model systems; oxygen atom transfer; molybdenum; tungsten; Oorganisk kemi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : The thesis deals with models for molybdopterin-dependent enzymes. Several model systems containing molybdenum or tungsten have been prepared and characterised, and their reactivity with oxygen atom acceptors and donors have been investigated. READ MORE

  5. 15. Microfluidic biosensing systems based on enzymes, antibodies and cells

    Author : Richard Davidsson; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; chemiluminescence; immobilization; cell; antibody; enzyme; miniaturization; Microfluidic; microchip;

    Abstract : The rapid developments within the life science and biotechnology areas put up ever-new demands on more sophisticated techniques and methods for chemical and biological analysis to reach deeper insight into the events at molecular level. Miniaturisation of assays and systems on microchips is one way to increase throughput and advance through parallel analysis lines, multiplexing and integration. READ MORE
