1. Pathophysiology of blood-brain barrier, brain edema and cell injury following hyperthermia : New role of heat shock protein, nitric oxide and carbon monoxide : an experimental study in rat using light and electron microscopy
Abstract : This thesis deals with the molecular mechanisms of hyperthermia induced brain damage in rats. The results clearly establish that hyperthermia caused by 4 h heat stress at 38° C is associated with a breakdown of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability which seems to be instrumental in causing brain edema and cell injury. 3. Gut Mucosal Reactivity to Gluten and Cow´s Milk Protein in Rheumatic Diseases
Abstract : This thesis comprised patients with chronic rheumatic diseases. The studies aimed to elucidate food sensitivity by measuring mucosal inflammatory reactivity and thereby a possible link between the gut and joints. READ MORE

4. On Brain Oedema
Abstract : Traumatic brain injury and bacterial meningitis may at a glance appear as two different disease entities. The host reaction, however, to both trauma and infection involves a strong inflammatory response, with the classical symptomology of rubor, tumor, calor, dolor et functio laesa. READ MORE

5. On the Regulation of the Epithelial Paracellular Permeability
Abstract : The epithelia of for instance the small intestine(s) plays a crucial role in the vectorial transport of nutrients and other solutes from the lumen to underlying body fluids, i.e. blood and lymph. READ MORE
