  1. 1. Nitric oxide in experimental sepsis

    University dissertation from Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care, Lund

    Author : Peter Dahm; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [1998]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intensive care; Nitric oxide; Sepsis; NO inhalation; Endotoxin; Acute lung injury; ARDS; Nitric oxide synthase; L-NMMA; L-NAME; Anestesiologi; Anaesthesiology; Pigs; intensivvård;

    Abstract : Popular Abstract in Swedish Septisk shock (shock utlöst av blodförgiftning) är en potentiellt dödlig komplikation till infektion med bakterier eller andra mikroorganismer. Inte bara de infekterande organismerna i sig, men också de inflammatoriska system och signalsubstanser som aktiveras, orsaker ett generaliserat inflammatoriskt tillstånd. READ MORE

  2. 2. Islet constitutive nitric oxide synthase and nitric oxide production. Modulatory effects on insulin and glucagon secretion

    University dissertation from Björn Åkesson, Department of Pharmacology, Sölvegatan 10, S-223 62 LUND, Sweden

    Author : Björn Åkesson; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [1998]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pharmacognosy; Pharmacological sciences; mouse; carbachol; muscarinic agonist; cyclic nucleotides; calcium-fluxes; NOS-inhibitors; in vitro and in vivo; insulin and glucagon secretion; Nitric oxide NO ; constitutive nitric oxide synthase cNOS ; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to elucidate the role of nitric oxide (NO) in the transduction signalling of insulin and glucagon release by stimulating or inhibiting islet endogenous NO-production as well as by using NO donors. Insulin release stimulated by L-arginine, the substrate for constitutive NO-synthase (cNOS)-catalyzed NO-production, was increased by the selective NOS-inhibitor NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) and suppressed by the intracellular NO donor hydroxylamine. 3. 3. Macula Densa Derived Nitric Oxide and Kidney Function

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Anna Ollerstam; Uppsala universitet.; [2002]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; Nitric oxide; rats; kidney; macula densa cells; tubuloglomerular feedback; renin; angiotensin II; blood pressure; hypertension; renal blood flow; neuronal nirtic oxide synthase; Cellbiologi; MEDICINE Morphology; cell biology; pathology Cell biology; MEDICIN Morfologi; cellbiologi; patologi Cellbiologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Abstract : The kidney is the major organ regulating the extracellular fluid volume and thereby the arterial blood pressure. The neuronal isoform of nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) in the kidney is predominantly located in the macula densa cells. READ MORE

  4. 4. Regulation of Insulin Secretion in Relation to Nitric Oxide, Carbon Monoxide and Acid alpha-Glucoside Hydrolase Activities

    University dissertation from Department of Experimental Medical Science, Lund Univeristy

    Author : Henrik Mosén; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2005]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endokrinologi; secreting systems; diabetology; Endocrinology; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; GK rat; insulin secretion; carbon monoxide; acid alpha-glucoside hydrolases; nitric oxide; heme oxygenase; isoforms of nitric oxide synthase; diabetologi; sekretion;

    Abstract : The main stimulus for insulin secretion is elevated blood glucose levels. In this thesis the aim was to study less well-known systems involved in the complex regulation of glucose-stimulated insulin release, emphasizing the role of the lysosomal/vacuolar system and the associated glycogenolytic acid alpha-glucoside hydrolases, but also the HO-CO and NOS-NO systems. 5. 5. The prefrontal cortex and information processing : nitric oxide signaling studied in an animal model of schizophrenia

    University dissertation from Department of Experimental Medical Science, Lund Univeristy

    Author : Kim Fejgin; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2008]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; schizophrenia; nitric oxide; prepulse inhibition; phencyclidine; prefrontal cortex; cGMP; baclofen; cognition;

    Abstract : The prefrontal cortex has been extensively linked to several cognitive domains that are severely compromised in schizophrenia. It has therefore become a key region for studies on the disabling cognitive dysfunction commonly observed in patients with schizophrenia. READ MORE
