16. Transition Metals and their Carbides, Nitrides and Carbonitrides : from a CALPHAD Perspective
Abstract : The CALPHAD (CALculation of PHAse Diagrams) method consists of three cornerstones, i.e. experiments, computational methods (e.g. READ MORE

17. Atomistic simulation and experimental studies of transition metal systems involving carbon and nitrogen
Abstract : The present work was initiated to investigate the stability, structural and thermodynamic properties of transition metal carbides, nitrides and carbo-nitrides by atomistic simulations and experimentations. The interatomic pair potentials of Cr-Cr, Mn-Mn, Fe-Fe, C-C, Cr-C, Mn-C, Fe-C, Cr-Fe, Cr-N and Mn-N were inverted by the lattice inversion method and ab initio cohesive energies, and then employed to investigate the properties of Cr-, Mn- and Fe-carbides by atomistic simulations in this work. 18. Piezoelectricity, Phase Stability, and Surface Diffusion in Multicomponent Nitrides
Abstract : The last hundred years have been full of scientific discoveries leading to technological advances, such as, computers, smart phones, etc. Most of the advances would not have been possible without new discoveries within the vast field of materials science. READ MORE

19. Toughness Enhancement in Hard Single-Crystal Transition-Metal Nitrides : V-Mo-N and V-W-N Alloys
Abstract : Transition-metal nitrides are known for their high hardness, good wear resistance, high-temperature stability, and chemical inertness. Because of these properties, they are extensively used in many industrial applications, notably as protective wear, erosion, and scratch resistant coatings, which are often subjected to high thermo-mechanical stresses. 20. Cathodoluminescence Studies of Quantum Structures and III-V nitrides
Abstract : Characterization of low-dimensional semiconductor structures is a challenging task. The thesis is based on experiments, using cathodoluminescence (CL) as a tool for characterization. The high spatial resolution and the possibility of spectroscopy of small structures make CL one of the most powerful techniques for these types of investigations. READ MORE
