  1. 21. Assessment of a partial nitritation/Anammox system for nitrogen removal

    Author : Luiza Gut; Elzbieta Plaza; Joanna Surmacz-Gorska; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biofilm; Deammonification; Nitrogen removal; Oxygen Uptake Rate OUR ; Partial nitritation Anammox system; Civil engineering and architecture; Samhällsbyggnadsteknik och arkitektur;

    Abstract : This thesis evaluates the performance of a deammonification system designed as a two-step tech-nology consisting of an initial partial nitritation followed by an Anammox process. Operation of a technical-scale pilot plant at the Himmerfjärden Wastewater Treatment Plant (Grödinge, Swe-den) has been assessed. READ MORE

  2. 22. Metabolic regulation of nitrogen fixation in Rhodospirillum rubrum

    Author : He Wang; Stefan Nordlund; Patrick Hallenbeck; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Rhodospirillum rubrum; nitrogen fixation; switch-off; PII; AmtB1; DRAG; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Nitrogen, along with carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, is amongst the most abundant elements in all living cells. The capability to convert atmospheric dinitrogen to biologically usable nitrogen compounds is only found in some prokaryotes. READ MORE

  3. 23. Interaction analysis and control of bioreactors for nitrogen removal

    Author : Björn Halvarsson; Bengt Carlsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Elektroteknik med inriktning mot reglerteknik; Electrical Engineering with specialization in Automatic Control;

    Abstract : Efficient control of wastewater treatment processes are of great importance. The requirements on the treated water (effluent standards) have to be met at a feasible cost. This motivates the use of advanced control strategies. READ MORE

  4. 24. Carbon utilisation for extended nitrogen removal and resource savings

    Author : Tobias Hey; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; primary sludge hydrolysis; carbon source; energy; resources; denitrification; environment; economy; volatile fatty acids; multiple pH point titration; wastewater treatment; activated sludge simulation.;

    Abstract : A full-scale in-line primary sludge hydrolysis experiment was conducted in one out of four primary settlers at the Klagshamn Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) to test if the wastewater quality can be improved in terms of providing easily accessible carbon for possible pre-denitrification and the reduction of external carbon sources. The amount of easily accessible carbon produced, in the form of the volatile fatty acid (VFA), alkalinity and ammonium concentrations, was measured throughout the entire full-scale experiment at the outlet of the hydrolysis tank and that of the ordinary primary settler, which served as a reference line. 5. 25. Engineered Wetlands and Reactive Bed Filters for Treatment of Landfill Leachate

    Author : Agnieszka Kietliñska; KTH; []
    Keywords : Blast furnace slag; Compact constructed wetland; Metals; Nitrogen; Polonite; Sorbents;

    Abstract : The main objectives of this study were to investigate (i) anovel wetland treatment technology and (ii) selected bed filtermedia for the removal of contaminants from landfill leachate. Areview of the literature concerning experiences of the use ofconstructed wetlands (CW) for the removal of nitrogen fromlandfill leachate, showed that at least three groups oftreatment systems are in practice: sub-surface flow wetlands,hybrid systems (a combination of vertical and horizontal flowwetlands) and, compact constructed wetland (CCW).
