  1. 6. Multi-conductor transmission line model for electrified railways: A method for including responses of lumped devices

    Author : Ziya Mazloom; Rajeev Thottappillil; Farhad Rachidi; KTH; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : For studying the response to transients caused by lightning and other electromagnetic disturbance sources, electrified railway systems can be represented as a system of multiconductor transmission lines (MTL) above a finitely conducting ground. The conductors present in this system would be wires for traction power supply, auxiliary power, return conductors for traction current, the tracks, and finitely conducting ground. READ MORE

  2. 7. Aeroacoustics Studies of Duct Branches with Application to Silencers

    Author : Mikael Karlsson; Mats Åbom; Luc Mongeau; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; silencer; muffler; confined flows; flow duct; aeroacoustics; vortex sound; acoustic multiports; linear stability; self-sustained oscillations; whistling; Herschel-Quincke tube; acoustic resonator; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Abstract : New methodologies and concepts for developing compact and energy efficient automotive exhaust systems have been studied. This originates in the growing concern for global warming, to which road transportation is a major contributor. READ MORE

  3. 8. Evaluation of NMR Knight shifts in metallic nanoparticles and topological matter

    Author : Wassilios Papawassiliou; Andrew Pell; Niklas Hedin; Ulla Gro Nielsen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; solid-state NMR; Knight shifts; metallic systems; topological matter; nanoparticles; DFT calculations; Physical Chemistry; fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : Elucidating the surface electron states of transition metal compounds is of primary importance in main heterogeneous catalytic processes, such as the hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions.  Key property in all these processes is the position of the energy of the d-band center relative to the Fermi-level of the catalyst; it must be shifted close to the Fermi level to achieve balance between adsorption and desorption of the catalyst and the adsorbate. 4. 9. Moving and Jamming : Implications for Social Movement Theory

    Author : Åsa Wettergren; Gerd Lindgren; Jack Barbalet; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; culture jamming; new social movements; culture studies; sociology of emotions; late capitalism; information society; discourse theory; post-structuralism; adbusters; collective identity; Sociology; Sociologi; Sociologi; Sociology;

    Abstract : The present compiled dissertation explores culture jamming as a social movement in late capitalist information society. Culture jamming embraces groups and individuals practicing symbolic protest against the expansion and domination of large corporations and the logic of the market into public and private life. 5. 10. Stem cell in-vitro strategies for the induction of sensory neurons for inner ear cell therapy

    Author : Rouknuddin Qasim Ali; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The cochlea, a part of the auditory system, is a complex structure consisting of several different types of cells including hair cells and spiral ganglion neurons. In mammals, the regenerative potential of hair cells and spiral ganglion neurons is lost soon after the birth and damage to any of these cells causes sensorineural hearing loss. READ MORE
