  1. 1. Human response to wind turbine noise : perception, annoyance and moderating factors

    Author : Eja Pedersen; Sten Ljunggren; Högskolan i Halmstad; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Noise; Environmental exposure; Wind; Audio-visual interaction; Low-level noise exposure; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; wind turbines; noise annoyance; sound perception; audio-visual interaction; low-level noise exposure;

    Abstract : Aims: The aims of this thesis were to describe and gain an understanding of how people who live in the vicinity of wind turbines are affected by wind turbine noise, and how individual, situational and visual factors, as well as sound properties, moderate the response.Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in a flat, mainly rural area in Sweden, with the objective to estimate the prevalence of noise annoyance and to examine the dose-response relationship between A-weighted sound pressure levels (SPLs) and perception of and annoyance with wind turbine noise. 2. 2. Gearbox noise : Correlation with transmission error and influence of bearing preload

    Author : Mats Åkerblom; Sören Andersson; D. Houser; KTH; []
    Keywords : gear; gearbox; noise; vibration; transmission error; bearing preload; Mechanical engineering; Maskinteknik;

    Abstract : The five appended papers all deal with gearbox noise and vibration. The first paper presents a review of previously published literature on gearbox noise and vibration. The second paper describes a test rig that was specially designed and built for noise testing of gears. READ MORE

  3. 3. Classroom noise : exposure and subjective response among pupils

    Author : Pär Lundquist; Rauno Pääkkönen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; school; teaching; students; annoyance children; sound; mood;

    Abstract : In Sweden, all children must have access to education of equal value and the curriculum points out the importance of a good environment for development and learning. Modern working methods differ a lot from the traditional. Teaching nowadays is focused on problem-solving. Students are more interactive, working in groups and projects. READ MORE

  5. 5. Noise Aspects of some Si-based One Port Devices and Carbon Nanotubes

    Author : Hassan Ouacha; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; etching; Schottky contacts; noise; fluctuations; generation; mobility; noise spectroscopy; recombination; p-n diodes; carbon nanotubes; thermal reaction; junction; defects; co-sputtering; irradiation; interface states; low frequency noise;

    Abstract : The p-n junctions and Schottky diodes based on Si1-xGex and SiC are of great importance in modern electronic applications, such as microwave detectors and mixers. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have appeared recently as an attractive new class of materials with a reduced dimensionality, and proposed as building blocks for nanoelectronic technology. READ MORE
