  1. 21. Urban Sound Planning - An attempt to bridge the gap

    Author : Laura Estévez Mauriz; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; prediction methods; road traffic noise; traffic dynamics; Urban sound planning; quiet side; urban systems; citizen participation; urban strategies;

    Abstract : Cities are constantly between transition and adaptation, where current urban development needs a consistent strategic solution capable of understanding and including the relationships between urban form, environment and urban life. Awareness of the quality of the urban environment is leading the vision on the resilience and sustainability of the built environment, highlighting the importance of a multidisciplinary urban framework. Abstract : Luftburna partiklar (PM) är ett problem för människans hälsa, där flertalet samband mellan negativa hälsoeffekter finns mellan luftföroreningar finns, bland annat för respiratoriska sjukdomar, lungcancer och kardiovaskulära sjukdomar med flera. I länder där dubbdäck används, till exempel Sverige, Finland och Norge, och sandning av vägar och gator genomförs vintertid för att säkerställa god friktion kommer en betydande andel av partiklarna från vägslitage och nedkrossning av sand vilket bidrar till PM10. 3. 23. Environmental factors in cardiovascular disease

    Author : Mats Rosenlund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Myocardial infarction; case-control study; aircraft noise; environmental tobacco smoke; ETS; drinking water; hardness; magnesium; calcium; air pollution; long-term; geographical information system; GIS;

    Abstract : Cardiovascular disease is the main cause of death in Sweden and other developed countries. The purpose of this thesis is to assess the role of certain environmental factors in the etiology of cardiovascular disease, expressed as hypertension and myocardial infarction, focusing on aircraft noise, environmental tobacco smoke, drinking water hardness, and ambient air pollution. 4. 24. Time-domain modelling of curve squeal: a fast model for one- and two-point wheel/rail contact

    Author : Ivan Zenzerovic; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; two-point contact; non-Hertzian contact; dynamics coupling; rolling contact; tangential point-contact model; Curve squeal; time domain; frictional instability;

    Abstract : Curve squeal is a type of railway noise that may arise when a railway vehicle negotiates a relatively tight curve. A single frequency, corresponding to a wheel mode, dominates the radiated sound, which makes squeal a very tonal noise. READ MORE

  5. 25. Urban greenness and related health effects

    Author : Åsa Persson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Exposure to urban greenness has been linked to a wide range of health outcomes, including many non-communicable health conditions which are presently among the largest contributors to the global burden of disease, such as cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, as well as mental disorders. Half of the world’s population now lives in urban areas; often affected by health hazards such as pollutants and heat islands, and characterized by low levels of physical activity, inadequate diets, and decreased access to nature.
