  2. 2. Some non-linear geometric and kinetic evolutions and their approximations

    Author : Richards Grzhibovskis; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; curvature flow; Willmore flow; convolution-thresholding; homothetic geometric flows; Boltzmann equation; deterministic methods; non-uniform grids; curvature flow;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with three non-linear evolution problems: mean curvature flow, Willmore flow, and the evolution of solutions to the space homogeneous Boltzmann equation. Generalized mean curvature flows are also considered. A major part of the study focuses on the construction of approximations to these evolutions. READ MORE

    Abstract : Many people choose to donate money to help victims of humanitarian crises. However, people’s donation decisions often fail to reflect that all victims are equally valuable to help. Instead, some victims seem to be favored. READ MORE

  4. 4. High order trapezoidal rule-based quadratures for boundary integral methods on non-parametrized surfaces

    Author : Federico Izzo; Olof Runborg; Robert Krasny; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Matematik; Mathematics;

    Abstract : This thesis is concerned with computational methods for solving boundary integral equations (BIE) on surfaces defined without explicit parametrization, called Implicit Boundary Integral Methods (IBIM). Using implicit methods for describing surfaces, such as the level-set method, can be advantageous for complex geometries and problems where the surface evolves over time. READ MORE

  5. 5. Modelling of ultrasonic scattering from a crack in a pipe

    Author : Jacob Rubenson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Non-Destructive Testing; Cylindrical Geometry; Pipe; Crack; Wave propagation;

    Abstract : This thesis considers elastic wave scattering in an infinitely long cylindrical pipe with an infinitely long internal axial crack. The method used in this thesis is called a hypersingular integral equation method since it starts with an integral representation and by using the Green's tensor of the pipe it can be manipulated to a hypersingular equation for the crack-opening displacement (COD).
