  1. 16. A PET study on dopamine and serotonin receptor binding in the primate brain : challenges with antipsychotic drugs and amphetamine

    Author : Yuan-Hwa Chou; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The brain imaging technique positron emission tomography (PET) has been applied to study dopamine and serotonin neurotransmission. In schizophrenia research, an important observation is that patients with schizophrenia, when compared with controls, have higher amphetamine induced dopamine release in the striatum. READ MORE

  2. 17. Cell Replacement Therapy for Parkinson's Disease: Potential for Circuitry Repair

    Author : Tiago Cardoso; Utvecklings- och regenerativ neurobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Rabies-based tracing; Parkinson s disease cell therapy; Cell Replacement Therapy; Human embryonic stem cells; Dopamine neuron; Synaptic integration; circuitry repair;

    Abstract : The derivation of dopamine neurons from human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) now offers a promising alternative to fetal tissue for cell replacement therapy (CRT) in Parkinson´s disease (PD). Using the appropriate chemical cues in vitro, hESCs can be patterned towards bona-fide ventral midbrain (VM) DA neurons that survive, reinnervate, release DA and provide functional recovery when transplanted into rodent and non-human primate models of PD. 3. 18. Neuronal dysfunction, death and repair in the MPTP model of Parkinson's disease

    Author : Kioumars Delfani; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Parkinson s Disease; apoptosis; substantia nigra; dopamine; MPTP; neurogenesis; intracranial transplantation; ATP; PET; stereology; diethyldithiocarbamate; 7-nitroindazole; mouse; squirrel monkey; non- human primate;

    Abstract : We have used mouse and non-human primate models of Parkinson's Disease to analyze neuronal dysfunction, death and repair in the mammalian brain, utilizing the neurotoxin 1-methyl-4-phenyl1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP). In a series of experiments we assessed the effects of diethyIdithiocarbamate (DDC) on MPTP toxicity, analyzing striatal and midbrain dopamine levels as well as neuronal loss. READ MORE

  4. 19. NMR Studies of Bacterial Albumin-Binding Modules

    Author : Maria U Johansson; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysikalisk kemi; Biotechnology; Bioteknik; Proteins; enzymology; Proteiner; enzymologi; Physical chemistry; three-helix bundle; protein structure; protein PAB; protein-protein interactions; protein G; protein dynamics; NMR; module shuffling; GA module; evolution; albumin-binding; bacterial surface proteins;

    Abstract : Peptostreptococcus magnus and group C/G streptococci are Gram-positive cocci that are part of the normal flora and reside in more or less the same locations in the host. Protein G of group C/G streptococci was originally described as binding IgGFc of several species and later shown to also bind human serum albumin and albumins from various animal species. READ MORE

  5. 20. Experimental studies on ovarian cryopreservation and transplantation

    Author : Milan Milenkovic; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : cryopreservation; ovary; transplantation; animal models;

    Abstract : Around 8% of all cancer victims are below 40 years of age and the survival after cancer treatment during childhood and reproductive years has increased considerably to be around 80% today. The clinical field of fertility preservation has emerged to enable cancer patients that are treated with potentially gonadotoxic chemotherapy-radiotherapy during childhood or reproductive ages, to preserve their fertility.
