  1. 1. Building Physics Tools: Needs, Use and the Lack of Use in the Building Process. Modelling Non-Isothermal Moisture Flow and Frost Penetration

    Author : Stephen Burke; Avdelningen för Byggnadsfysik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; isothermal; costs; building physics tools; moisture damages; learning loop; experience; causal loop diagrams; non-isothermal; moisture transport;

    Abstract : Despite advances in material science, computers and building technology, building failures related to building physics continue to occur. These failures range from a building not meeting its energy use target to a building causing people to become ill from exposure to various chemicals or biological organisms. READ MORE

  2. 2. Numerical predictions and measurement of non-isothermal airflows : evaluation of buoyant wall jets and airflow through large openings

    Author : Tobias Törnström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : How can we attain a good indoor climate and at the same time reduce energy consumption? These issues are of particular interest in countries with cold climates, where the need for heating is large. It is important to design a HV AC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) system that achieves a desirable indoor climate, where discomfort due to draft and thermal discomfort is avoided. 3. 3. SmCo for polymer bonded magnets : Corrosion, silanization, rheological, mechanical and magnetic properties

    Author : Muhammad Irfan Qadeer; Steven Savage; Mikael Hedenqvist; Uta Klement; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Organofunctional alkoxysilanes; High temperature oxidation; Rare-earth magnetic alloys; SmCo; Isothermal; Non-isothermal; Microstructure; Magnetic properties;

    Abstract : This thesis presents the study of organofunctional alkoxysilane coatings to prevent high temperature oxidation of Sm-Co powders. Sm-Co are important permanent magnetic alloys, owing to their high Curie temperature and large values of magnetocrystalline anisotropy. READ MORE

  4. 4. Applied Modeling of Moisture Phenomena in Concrete

    Author : Marcin Stelmarczyk; Andrzej Cwirzen; Hans Hedlund; Klaas van Breugel; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Concrete; Modeling degree of hydration; Modeling chemically bounded water; Modeling moisture sorption; Modeling moisture transport; Hysteresis; Byggmaterial; Building Materials;

    Abstract : This thesis contains new and improved calculation models, based on applied research merging numerical modeling and material research, in the areas of hydration and chemical binding of water, sorption of moisture and transport of moisture in concrete. The proposed model for hydration and chemical binding of water is based on general kinetics modeling and calculates degree of hydration directly, without using of equivalent time of maturity. 5. 5. Modeling the Lunar plasma wake

    Author : Shahab Fatemi; Bengt Eliasson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Rymdteknik; Space Technology;

    Abstract : This thesis discusses the solar wind interaction with the Moon and the formation of the lunar plasma wake from a kinetic perspective. The Moon is essentially a non-conducting body which has a tenuous atmosphere and no global magnetic fields. The solar wind plasma impacts directly the lunar day-side and is absorbed by the lunar surface. READ MORE
