  1. 1. Development of laser spectroscopy for scattering media applications

    Author : Mats Andersson; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Laserteknik; Laser technology; Atom- och molekylärfysik; Atomic and molecular physics; Fysik; Physics; coherent sampling; optical sensor; light absorption; noninvasive measurement; diode laser; scattering of light; laser spectroscopy; fluorescence spectroscopy; remote sensing; Lidar; DIAL;

    Abstract : Laser spectroscopy for both large and small spatial scales has been developed and used in various applications ranging from remote monitoring of atmospheric mercury in Spain to investigation of oxygen contents in wood, human sinuses, fruit, and pharmaceutical solids. Historically, the lidar group in Lund has performed many differential absorption lidar (DIAL) measurements with a mobile lidar system that was first described in 1987. READ MORE

  2. 2. Methods for measurement of vocal fold vibration and viscoelasticity

    Author : Hans Larsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : High-speed video imaging; kymography; acoustic analysis; vocal fold vibration; glottal edge; glottal area; laser; mucosal wave; triangulation; vocal fold; vocal fold length; vocal fold width; vocal fold strain; non-invasive; vocal fold scarring; air pulse stimulation;

    Abstract : The overall aim of the thesis was to develop new methods for analysis of vocal fold vibrations and viscoelasticity and to test them in human subjects. In Study I the onset of vibration and irregular vocal fold vibration was examined with laryngoscopy using a high-speed camera at a frame rate of about 2000 images/sec. READ MORE

  3. 3. Luminescence Spectroscopy For Biomedical Applications

    Author : Monirehalsadat Mousavi; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biomedical optics; fluorescence; photodynamic therapy; optical properties; ; dosimetry; in vivo measurement; upconverting nanoparticles; Quantum yield; Fysicumarkivet A:2019:Mousavi;

    Abstract : This work presents optical methods utilizing visible light for characterization of biological tissue during diagnostics and treatment processes. The main aim has been to improve the therapeutic outcome of treatment modalities in in vivo studies. READ MORE

  4. 4. Noninvasive haemodynamic evaluation of aortic valve prostheses : Doppler echocardiographic studies at rest and during exercise

    Author : Maria J Eriksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : heart valve prosthesis; aortic valve replacement; Doppler echocardiography; exercise; haemodynamics; valve resistance;

    Abstract : The present series of investigations was designed to supply information on in vivo pressure-flow relationships and to analyse the incidence of regurgitation in different heart valve prostheses in the aortic position. Patients and methods: The study population comprised 185 patients with mechanical Björk-Shiley Monostrut prostheses, 54 patients with Biocor stented porcine bioprostheses, 50 patients with extended Biocor stentless bioprostheses and 59 patients with cryopreserved aortic homografts. 5. 5. Methodological studies applying new techniques for evaluation of arterial function

    Author : Margareta Ring; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease is the most common cause of death in the Western world today. Atherosclerosis in the arterial wall is related to aging and the inflammatory and calcification processes, and is influenced by risk factors such as smoking, male gender, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, stress, inactivity, hyperlipidemia, and genetic factors.
