  1. 11. Structural Changes in Nonionic Surfactant Systems

    Author : Sanja Bulut; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Vesicles; Nonionic Surfactant; Wormlike Micelles; Lamellar Phase; NMR; MRI; SLS; DLS; cryo-fracture-TEM; centrifugation; cryo-TEM;

    Abstract : In this thesis we have studied structural changes of a nonionic surfactant self-assembly, as governed by changes in temperature and concentration. The techniques used in experimental investigations were dynamic and static light scattering, nuclear magnetic resonance and cryo-transmission electron microscopy (using a novel specimen preparation protocol). 2. 12. Biodegradable Surfactants Containing Hydrolyzable Bonds

    Author : Maria Stjerndahl; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; amide; alkaline hydrolysis; cleavable surfactant; carbonate; ester; biodegradation; CMC; enzymatic hydrolysis; mixed micelle;

    Abstract : Surfactants with built-in weak bonds, so-called cleavable surfactants, are interesting candidates in the search for more environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional surfactants. The objective of this thesis was to perform a systematic study in which cleavable surfactants with different hydrolyzable bonds were compared with regard to physicochemical properties, and chemical and biological stability. 3. 13. Organic Synthesis in Nonionic Microemulsions

    Author : Maria Häger; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; organic reaction; phase behaviour; microemulsion; reaction kinetics;

    Abstract : The aim of this work has been to explore the use of microemulsions as reaction media for organic synthesis. Another important aim has been to improve the understanding of the reaction kinetics and the mechanism of the reaction in this type of surfactant system. READ MORE

  4. 14. Adsorption at the Solid-Liquid Interface: An Atomic Force Microscopy Study

    Author : Lachlan M Grant; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; hydrophobicity.; self-assembly; aggregate geometry; atomic force microscopy; nonionic; adsorption; surfactant; Fysikalisk kemi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : The aim of the work presented in this thesis was to investigate nature of adsorption of amphiphiles to the solid–liquid interface. The surface aggregate structures of the zwitterionic surfactant dodecyldimethylammoniopropanesulfonate, (DDAPS) and a series of nonionic polyoxyethlylene glycol alkyl ethers (C10E5, C12E5, C12E8, C10E6, C14E6 and C16E6) have been determined by Atomic Force Microscopy on solids of different hydrophobicity. 5. 15. Solution properties of a hydrophobically modified polymer

    Author : Krister Thuresson; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; sodium dodecylsulfate; surfactants; fluorescence; light scattering; NMR; rheology; cloud point; phase behaviour; polyelectrolytes; ethyl hydroxyethyl cellulose; hydrophobically modified; water soluble polymers; aggregation number; association; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : The influence of hydrophobic modification on solution properties of water-soluble polymers in the semi-dilute regime have been studied. The nonionic ethyl(hydroxyethyl)cellulose (EHEC) and its hydrophobically modified analogue (HM-EHEC) are used as model substances. READ MORE
