  1. 16. Ellipsometry studies of liquid interfaces: New methodology and applications

    Author : Jan-Willem Benjamins; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Surface and boundary layery chemistry; Ytkemi; gränsskikt; phospholipids; lactoglobulin; air water; oil water; block copolymers; nonionic surfactants; Brewster angle microscopy; Ellipsometry; adsorption;

    Abstract : Adsorption of several surface active agents, such as nonionics, diblock copolymers, triblock copolymers, proteins and phospholipids at the oil/water and air/water has been studied. In order to be able to do this, a new ellipsometry setup, which utilizes light guides, was developed and tested. READ MORE

  2. 17. Structure-Property Relationships of Surfactants at Interfaces and Polyelectrolyte-Surfactant Aggregates

    Author : Mikael Kjellin; KTH; []
    Keywords : nonionic surfactant; sugar surfactant; poly ethylene oxide ; amide; ester; polyelectrolyte; SDS; hydrophobic surface; glass surface; mica; adsorption; aggregation; micelle size; surface forces; wetting; dynamic surface tension; NMR; TRFQ; SANS; SAXS; ;

    Abstract : The first part of this thesis is concerned with thestructure-property relationships in nonionic surfactantsystems. The main aim was to investigate how the surfactantstructure influences the adsorption at interfaces andinteractions between surfactant coated interfaces. READ MORE

  3. 18. Adsorption of nonionic amphiphiles to solid surfaces

    Author : Johanna Brinck; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; silica; solubilisation; self assembly; ellipsometry; mixed micelles; surfactant; kinetics; Adsorption; desorption; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : In this study, the adsorption of nonionic amphiphiles from aqueous solutions to solid, planar surfaces is investigated using null ellipsometry. This technique allows independent measurements of the amounts adsorbed at the surface and of the mean optical thickness of the adsorbed layer. READ MORE

  4. 19. Polymer Gels and their Interactions with Ionic Surfactants

    Author : Olof Rosén; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; Polymer-Surfactant Interactions; Modified Polymers; Binding Isotherm; Polymer Gels; Swelling Isotherm; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : The response on chemically crosslinked gels and polymer solutions on the addition of ionic surfactants and/or addition of salt at different temperatures have been studied. All polymers studied are water soluble and slightly hydrophobic or hydrophobically modified. READ MORE

  5. 20. Phase Behavior and Solution Properties of Aqueous Polyion-Surfactant Ion Systems

    Author : John Janiak; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polymer-surfactant association; complex salt; nonionic surfactant; poly acrylic acid ; poly methacrylic acid ; copolymer; polymeric counterion; decyl betainate; phase behavior; solubilization; mixed micelle; hydrolysis; release; liquid crystal; nanoparticles; thermosresponsive; C12E8; C12E5;

    Abstract : Polyelectrolytes and oppositely charged surfactants interact through attractive electrostatic forces, which in many cases lead to phase separation already at low total concentrations. During the past 10-15 years investigations of these systems have been simplified through the use of complex salts that consist of surfactants with polymeric counterions in a 1:1 charge stoichiometry (no excess simple counterions present).
